Post distributor???
hey there people, been tinkering with the gtm today, trying to get it started so i can drive it on to the trailer ready to take it to my new lockup! and ive came to a little problem, mt engine is off the old style where the distributor is the "thin" slot for the drive! and im having trouble fitting the distributor cap on and the ht leads there just isnt enough room for it between the engine and frame! was wondering if anybody else has had this trouble? or any ideas what i could do about it?

mines pretty much tight up against the frame but i can just about slip the cap over without damaging anything apart from my fingers.. have you got your engine steadies on? cant remember which way it rocks but that might just give you a that little bit more room to get the cap on?

all the steadys are bolted up correctly! from what i can see comparing it to the minis! really buggin me as ive been trying nearly all afternoon to no avail! just dosent fit, the cap will go in fine on its own but as soon as you add the ht leads it wont fit, and you cant fit the cap first the the ht leads as there is no room! :x

do your ht leads come out the top of the dizzy cap then? mine come out from the side so makes no difference if the leads are on or not.

mine comes form the top you see when i bought the car it had been off the road since 1994 after a blown head gasket, the gasket was replaced and a new exhaust system fitted, then was left, the distributor was in a box that came with the car and had no cap, so i stole one from the mini and well it dosent fit! so i must try and find a side mount one, you have any idea what car th side mount ones came off so i can order one?

I think the side exit dizzy comes from a metro. just make sure that it will fit as some are screw on, rather than clip on.

yeah the screw on ones are for the electronic distributor's (got a clear one on the mini), but the gtm has the older style distributer even with the old style points! supposedly the engine was highly tuned thus the need for no vacuum advance too!

I'm running a A+ block and mine fits with the std 45d dizy with the HT leads coming out the top, its tight but it does fit. I'm not sure if there was much difference in height between A and A+ dizys. Rooster if you want to change from points to electronic and have an A+ block I have a good std electronic mini dizy as spare that I could sell if your interested. If its a STD mini dizy more than likley it will be a 45d and you can get a side mount cap for this dizy.

You can get clip on and screw on side exit caps. The electronic distributor is taller than the points one and has a different drive but it will still fit.
