Re: Heerey 1.3 Project
Looking really good, I have a later chassis and interesting to see the similarities in the rear spaceframe, keep the pictures coming. I am currently modelling mine in cad and thinking of doing a study between early and later style chassis

Cutting slots for door hinges in side plates. Doubtless a punch would have been quicker.

Re: Heerey 1.3 Project
Hi there your question set me thinking. Spent a bit of time messing with some bathroom scales. The Heerey floorpan has come out at about 66.1 kg. The new style one that I have just finished is about 80 kg. Derek

Re: Heerey 1.3 Project
Interesting on the weights, between Stuart and myself we had weighed a couple of tubs and we were sitting at approx 95-98kg for the later tub and I think 75-77Kg for then full sheet metal cox style tub which is quite thin in places.

Re: Heerey 1.3 Project
Yep I did write it down, and I had to check, the tub I weighed in September was 72.35kg. With no paint on the inside surface and undersill paint on the outside floor.

Re: Heerey 1.3 Project
Derek looking very good, Can I ask what gauge Steel you are using? 66kg seems nice and light to me! Also, I notice you have omitted the passenger side inner spaceframe leg, do you feel it is not needed? Simon

Re: Heerey 1.3 Project
Simon, I have used 20g. steel as described in the spec. sheet for the car. In fact this spec sheet said that the car was fabricated from 20 - 22g steel. I found no 22g on my car, but maybe it rusted away first, or there was none this thin. I think it would be very brave to use 22g. In the literature on this forum there is reference to the Heerey racer being extra lightweight so maybe he was that brave. Does anyone know? The passenger side inner leg is not fitted on this model to allow room for the standard mini radiator to be left attached to the engine.

Re: Heerey 1.3 Project
I can confirm and I am sure Stuart can give more details the early cars were thin the tub we were looking at was def 20g for the most part and had a couple of bits in 18g
The later cars are a mixture of 16g and 18g
My personal thoughts are the earlier cars in some respects are a better engineered chassis.
I am planning to do some stress models once I have my Virtual chassis finished.
Derek the later chassis you did was it all 18g or a mix of 16g and 18g.
Also I have another question, did you do it to metric or imperial sizes as everything on seems to fall to nice imperial measurements.
Neil

Re: Heerey 1.3 Project
Mine has that leg in but was fitted with the Mini rad (there is no cut out at the front) I will put this one in I think as Intend to use a front rad. I would be surprised if they used 22swg anywhere on the production cars, that is very thin! If they used it on the racer it must have flexed a fair bit... I must say Derek seeing your tub coming together I am starting to rethink my plans, Will you be selling both fully built and a kit of parts for the Heerey? I would be interested to know about this and a price for both when you have that information. Now to build the work shop!
