Post Mountney Padded Steering Wheel Centre
I'm looking for the padded centre that Mountney used to make for their steering wheels to make them SVA compatible. It is in one piece (I think) and covers the spokes and centre cap.

OR

An SVA acceptable steering wheel that will fit on to a Mountney boss.

The boss I have is collapsible and, together with either of the above, will overcome the non-collapsibility (!) of the Allegro steering column that my car has :)

ive just remembered ive got a momo steering wheel with padded center but you would have to buy a mini momo boss or the steering wheel off a mx5 is a momo and has a padded center but again you would have to buy a momo center boss

Thanks for that, Dave. Is it fully padded (ie centre, spokes, the lot) and will it definitely not fit the Mountney boss? The reason I want to stick with the Mountney one is that it's collapsible, but maybe the Momo one is too....

I also had a mountney wheel on a kit I just went through SVA with and it would have failed due to the slots in the spokes and the non padded centre so I cut two pieces of carpet the shape of the centre and spokes, then covered these in leather (I knew I kept the old sofa for a reason) then glued this to the centre of the wheel, at the end of the spokes I cut strips of leather that I then did a single wrap around the end of the "new" padded section and the final bit of the original spokes and glued them at the rear of the wheel spokes to make it look more professional. The tester checked it out and was happy with the result as he couldn't hurt himself in an accident.
Obviously if you haven't got an old sofa lying around then any leathercloth would surfice.
Took me about half an hour to do and no needlework was involved (can't stich to save my life).

That's the best laugh I've had today!!   Seriously, though, you're spot on - the tester I spoke to said to do it myself or take it to an upholsterer but I'd never have thought of using the materials you did! Thanks for the tip
