Paint Removal
Right I'm trying to get the body ready for its new paint and I'm trying to get the old paint off to check for rust and filler, I brought a sealey sandblaster the other week and some grit and set to work on the underneath, well it wasn't too successfull, the blasting would take it off but very slowly, the paint is very very hard, I'm lead to belive it may be powder coated or 2k. Any suggesting on how to remove this kind of paint??? Are there different types of blasting media?? which one to use???

Re: Paint Removal
Angle grinder. The ones used with a drill aren't as good and can knacker your bearings in the drill, because you are pushing in a direction that it wasn't designed for.

Re: Paint Removal
What was the surface like after using the flap wheel, I would imagine quite scored, I would say that would be ok under the car but I need to get the paint off the interior surfaces as well

Re: Paint Removal
Unusual for paint from GTM to stick to the chassis I have had a couple of Coupes with the factory applied epoxy paint and it just fell off in sheets after a couple of years.

Re: Paint Removal
Yeah I'm not sure what it is or whether its original or not, all I can say is its bloody hard to get off, I tried the blaster and also a wire knot wheel on the angle grinder but that seems to just burn the paint and leaves a red residue on the steel. I'm thinking on the line of a paint stripper?? Any suggestions

Re: Paint Removal
I stripped the whole lot. Inside and out and it let a great finish. It smooths the metal, as it isn't as harsh as a solid disk. I was amazed how long the flap wheels lasted too. I think 2 of them did the entire car.
