I'm told 2 kits went for power coating this week and one of them will be mine
Not sure why they're being made in fits and starts...

Hi all,

I've got the z cars suspension fitted and adjusted properly now and you can see from the photos that the arms are fitted quite far to the outside of the brackets so the shock clearance to the tyre and the engine frame is much improved.

A few pictures attached.

The Z cars set up is looking good. What geometry have you set it up to?

Looks pretty odd without the engine frame in!

What wheels are they - rim size/offset? Tyre size? Might be the picture angles but doesn't look like a huge amount of clearance to those shock bodies.

Hi Dave,

Wheels are Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 in 7 x 16" with a 25et offset. Tyres are Toyo Proxies T1R, 215/40.

As far as the geometry goes, I've set the rose joints exactly the same as the arms have a natural toe in geometry but I haven't measured this yet (going to let track developments do that). I've concentrated on getting the wheelbase and track width right at this stage. Just waiting for the engine frame to come back from powder coating then it's engine in!

It's hard to tell from the pics but the shocks have plenty of clearence to the tyres (slightly more than they had with the original suspension), I'll get a head on pic and post it tomorrow.

Has that engine steady made any difference by the way?

Looks great on the car

What's the wheel to arm clearance like as that was the thing that caught my eye more?

It's pretty tight but acceptable, I'll take some pictures tonight to show the gap. I think I mentioned earlier in the thread that my car runs with 5mm wheel spacers all round and without these it would be too tight in my opinion. If anyone has wider rims than 7" with a similar offset to mine (et25) you will almost certainly need spacers, but at least the track can be adjusted in or out to allow for these so not a huge problem.

Some more pictures which I hope show the clearances to the shock and tyre a little better.

The clearance from tyre to the body of the arm is 10mm which I'm happy with but, as per the post above, I'm running 5mm wheel spacers and if these weren't fitted it'd be a little bit too close I feel.
Clearance to the shock is about 12mm to the stepped part nearest the tyre and about 15mm to the main shock body so all ok.

Also another pic of the rear set up but with the callipers, handbrake cables and brake lines fitted.

Don't think so Ian, but Ryan gets his next week so hopefully they'll all be made soon.

Dave G will sort you out! have you seen his ebay add for a carbon fibre tub?

Those clearances look absolutely fine.

The engine steady has definitely made a difference, much less movement and feels more positive taking up drive. Thanks again :D

Clearances do indeed look spot on, just the camera angle of the first few pics made it look worse. Cheers for the pics Jamie

looks good Jamie! 8) One thing I've noticed though if I look at mine the outer "lug" that the shocks attach to is higher than the other with a hole in it. I think this was for the anti-roll bar to attach to? Those don't have that, I guess you could attach to the holes in the bottom of the lugs? Although not much space perhaps. :?:

Good spot!

The higher lug was deleted as they found that it fouled the shock body on the new style arms. I think it's because the actual 'arm' has been moved outboard slightly on the tube that holds the rose joints compared to the originals; the idea being to make it easier to get the right track width without spacers etc.

The roll bars will now have to pick up on the shock mount bolt.

It was more to do with the new pro tech shocks fouling what used to be the ARB mounting point because they are much thicker bodied than the old ones.

I've sent a few ideas to David Rose. Could pick up the same fixing point quite easily but the ARB links are M10 so it would need some kind of m12 fem to m10 male adapter or a m12 bolt with the end wasted to m10 if such a thing exists. To secure both the ARB and shock on one fixing.

That's right, it's not so much of a problem with the other shock types as we tried my old Gaz ones and they were ok but with the protechs the slightly different spacing of the new arms were just fouling.

A wasted pin would work a treat or you could weld a 10mm bolt (8mm?) back to back with the m12 bolt head to pick up the roll bar link.
