Post Shock absorbers
Hi all got the front suspension off the Libra to renovate the wishbones and change the ball joints while it is off. Am I right in thinking the factory intended the front shocks to run inverted with adjusters at the top as mine were mounted the conventional way up. Front suspension was obviously fitted before inner wings etc so could not withdraw some of the bolts as fitted wrong way around good old cutting disc ?

Mine had Gaz shocks when i first got it and now has protechs, both are mounted conventially with adjusters at the bottom. What shocks do you have?

Mine is on GAZ and they are conventional way up.

I had the same problem when I removed my front wishbones a while ago. Bolts were in the "wrong" way round so impossible to withdraw. I did manage to cut off the bolt heads but not easy due to tight access and being in recesses into the grp. It was nearly three years ago but IIRC I could only cut about 2/3 through the bolt head without cutting grp and then snapped the rest off with a cold chisel. Good luck.

Are you re powder coating them? I stripped off the flaking powder coat with a rotary wire brush and went for high build chassis paint. Nearly three years later it is still looking good.

Mine has Gaz fitted but the paperwork with the car seems to imply they should be inverted and seem to remember reading in the past something to do with unsprung weight. I got the bolts out but yes could not cut all the way through had to snap off after cutting as far as possible. I tend to agree the powder coating makes things worse once chipped but while getting the rust off by the electrolytic rust removal method it stripped the old powder coating as well. I am going to use the Rustbuster epoxy chassis treatment on the wish bones it has worked well on the Ginetta thanks both for your replies

I have AVOs fitted with adjusters at the top (so piston at the bottom) on front and rear, pretty sure this was how they were supposed to be fitted as per the factory.
I have some Protechs to replace the fronts, but not fitted yet - I think they will only fit one way due to the larger dia. springs?

Mine are protech and had to be fitted upside down. I did call protech and they said it doesn’t make any difference but i understand they now make them the right way up.
