Its not too bad provided you can get right underneath and remove the engine steadies so you can tip the engine back.......not something I'd want to do every day though

Post Re: Z Cars rear suspension
Hi All, just wanted to post an update

I spoke to David last night and I've told him he can sell my kit if anyone wants it.

He planned a run of 10, first 5 are manufactured, one already on Jamie's car, 3 spoken for and 1 available which is mine. The other 5 in the next batch are all spoken for, meaning if you missed out on the "group buy" there is one kit left available at the group buy price as I have decided to part ways with my Libra.

I'll be making sure I get my money back regardless, but figured I should help to try and sell it given I drove the group buy idea in the first place. He has said they are open to making more kits to order in future but for no less than the original £1500+VAT.

To be fair to David he's been very honest about what's gone on, sounds like they had a bit of a nightmare with the jigs but it's all sorted now. God knows how good the kits are that the previous z cars did because the jigs were not as effective as they should be and have lead to some alterations of the jigs and the manufacturing process. With this in mind I can understand why he didn't want to send them out as they were on their first attempt. The old Z cars went down with its reputation in tatters and he's doing his best to build it back up.

It's obviously gone on longer than we would have liked, but I want to make it clear that my decision to sell the car has nothing to do with the delay of the kit or any greivance with David or Z Cars. Granted, if I'd had the kit by now I'd have fitted it but would still have ended up selling the car eventually.

Will be watching with interest regardless to see how everyone gets on. The kit looks great on Jamie's car and it's a shame I won't be doing the conversion myself, but I need the space in the garage and money back!

Thanks to you Ryan for helping to get the group buy sorted out, you really strove for a great deal for us all.

Good luck with the sale and with your future plans mate.

I want to do some racing with the 750MC. Not entirely sure yet, possibly RGB if I can get a car for reasonable money. I’ve decided the bike is going too. Full reset!!

If you can fit the manifold with the engine in place there must be a lot more room between the engine and the bulkhead on the Libra than the Spyder. There's no way I could do that on mine!

Looking forward to a pic of the manifold all freshly coated 8)[/quote]

Quick update.

Got my manifold back from Ceramic Coating and it looks great! I would recommend Maldon Shot Blasting and Powder Coating if anyone needs any coating work done, they were excellent and will get my business in future.

Pics below. It was a doddle to fit even with the z cars rear beam in place (sorry Sanz  )

Hi Matty,

Nothing yet but whilst my car was there we came up with a plan of how to do it. Basically, they are a bit snowed under at the moment to take this on as well and wanted to concentrate on getting the rear suspension kits out first but its definitely in the plan for the future.

The current plan is that I'll take my car down there sometime next year to re-visit this and get them made up. They felt that the bottom wishbone would be the one made adjustable as this would best make use of the available space, the top wishbone is a little too cramped to make easily adjustable.

Of course, we could probably speed this process up if anyone has a set of spare lower wishbone they could make available?

Having spent today getting the geometry set as best as I can, a few tips for anyone setting it up.

Order for settings:
1. Set the track width arbitrarily with the same amount of washers each side.
2. Wheelbase - I set both rose joints equal and then wound them out the same amount until it was set.
3. Toe in - Use the inboard rose joints to set this. This will alter the track width, hence the arbitrary setting to start with. From calculations (and measurement), half a turn of the inner rose joint equates to about 0.2° of toe (or 1.5mm on a 17" rim).
4. Track width - Fiddle with the washers until it matches the front.
5. Camber.

Did you all get sorted in the end? Expected to come on here and see loads of pics and not much else has been posted since I sold my Libra!

Hi Ryan,

Mines still not on the road as I can’t stop fiddling.....

Spoke to Rod P who has recently fitted his spyder with the kit and he’s a big fan, big improvement apparently.

How’s the racing going?

Great that's good to hear

Going alright thanks mate, getting the hang of it. Had to work out a lot of foibles with the car but progressing well.
