Having taken my pedal box out yesterday I notice that the brake return spring is still in place although the manual says it should be removed??

Any ideas why the manual says to leave out the brake return spring?

A bump for this question years afterwards!

I’ve got a sticking brake piston on the Libra and wondering whether it’s missing the brake spring. I’ve never had the pedal box complete but in a box of bits the car came with there is a silver spring that fits well between a metal loop around the steering column and through the cut out in the brake arm.

Any thoughts from anyone? To be honest I’d love to replace the Metro pedal box- any proven examples appreciated!

My 2000 era build manual makes no mention of removing the brake pedal spring, it just says to swap the original pedal for the kit's one. I have original spring (FAM7407) on my pedal that wraps round the shaft and hooks on the pedal etc.

That’s fantastic, thank you! Once again this forum provides! I’m liking those pedals as well. That spring should sort it- I really didn’t want to keep it off the road for another job!

The pedals are Sparco Curva in red, had em since the car was built back in '00. I had to cut off part of the bottom left corner of the throttle pedal cos it stuck out too much.

Looking at Sidewinder's image, it doesn't appear to have the brace bar fitted? linked thread shows this. Allows the pedal to be pushed harder without anything moving!

I don't have the brace bar, it wasn't a 'thing' when I built my car (years ago!). I used the vertical part of the pedal box with a bolt (for adjustment) and the bolt rests on a block of wood that is sandwiched between it and the vertical bulkhead behind the pedals. Crude but effective. You can just see the silver hex head bolt and top of the brown wood at the bottom of my above pic.

One day I will fab and fit one cos it's a good idea.

Brake spring figment was a bit of struggle (yoga level 10?!) but seems to have worked a treat! Interestingly I don’t have the hole for the spring to go in so I’ve simply hooked it onto the plate, which seems absolutely fine and can always add it in later if the tension is too high.

Also, I’ve got the brace bar fitted as Bob’s photo shows in the link. Simple but effective.
