Thunderossa

The brief for the car is to build a Hill climb /Sprint/Drag car at a realistic price that is competitive
This is to combine our hobby and my son’s university project.

Bought a Rossa mk1 £100 from Stockport
Thunderace engine 120bhp average price £300 on EBay
(A bit of advice, if you are thinking of putting a bike engine in buy a salvage bike.)
Raid the garage for Mini parts

I have removed the rear sub frame, cut a hole in the rear bulk head, then built the frame as pictured.
This frame is the 3rd attempt and it has also been cut up twice hence some poor welding. No triangulation will be done until all components are in place.

As you can see all the major parts are in place except the coilovers
This has taken months to design but we now have a 60inch wheelbase, the diff on the n/s, the engine almost in the centre and all parts used are stock or adjustable.
Sorry have extended the bottom arm adjuster, mainly for safety

Will add more as I progress

As the early nights are here I have stopped work on the car bought a Myford and will concentrate on the diff/shock absorber mounts

Does anyone have a 6” 4jaw chuck?

By the end of winter I should have the engine in the frame and running, all the diff driveshafts etc and the rear suspension finished.

Back to the drawing board the shockers are now going to be inboard and lie flat???

Hi Thunderossa.
Good to see someone gettin stuck in.
Engine looks very far forward.
Do you not have a problem with it fouling the the seat?

With the GTM being a rossa he has loads of room between the axle line and the seats, as im sure i was told the rossa was intended to be a 2+2 but thre isnt really enough room for the +2 so there is loads of space if you remove the rear bulkhead.

Hello
I put the front of the frame in line with the rollcage, then built back from there, leaving the seats in the same place.
The one thing i have tried to do is keep everything as standard and as you can see the bike sprocket is large.
Once the diff is finished I can then move the engine to its final possition(exhaust has to come up between the back of the engine in front of the driveshaft)My main problem is where the carbs end up as they could foul the body under the rear window.
Hope that helps

Hello
Progress is one step forward two back!!!
Here are a couple of pictures showing the subframe with the rollbar bolted though it with rear detachable bars fitted.
Front bars will then be fitted at the same point on the hoop and bolt to the floor/wheelarch.
This will give the car its strength a full roll cage will be fitted later.
The engine is in place and all the diff is machined ready to fit
Next job is to put it all together and start the engine!!!
Then finally I can start to think about fitting it to the car

Hey guys any progress on this? id love to know where you got upto im due to start my mock up of the bike engine soon what we were thinking is running one suzuki srad 600 engine around 100bhp with a duplex gear on the output shaft driving a modified mini gearbox that has a top pan/cover with an oilseal around the input shaft with a view to making a cradle capable of carryng an additional srad engine at a later stage with a layshaft in the middle to transfer the drive from both engines very brief discription i know but I will post some more info once i have it :)
