If it has never been registered you will probably need to put it through IVA.

Nasty.

Do all in your power to find if it has ever owned a number plate. Otherwise, get ready for governmental red tape.

Post Re: Registering my K3
As stated if not already registered then it will need an IVA test. Earlier this year I managed to get a different kit car through the SVA test but it was totally different to a K3 and I had to do a llot of messing around. I also have a K3 which is correctly registered so don't need to go through that again.
Having said that and having looked at the K3 I don't think it would be too difficult to get through as a lot of the items are based on sharp edges (internal and external) Vision (mirrors, folding in if hitting a pedestrian and the view to the rear) Braking and suspension (well it is basically standard Metro so shouldn't be too much to worry about) Lighting should be ok. The areas that might be an issue are the seat belts (hieght from base of seat and what they are fixed to and possibly the fuel tank (I believe that it should be outside the cabin and not in the engine bay (could be wrong on this point it was just something someone else had said).
If you haven't got an original bill of sale for the body you may come up against an issue when you want a registration and unless it has changed in the last year you will get a Q plate if you don't have it, if you do have it then you should get an age related plate to whatever the donor vehicle was (you will need to prove that most all the parts came from one donor car to get that).
A couple of other points: Take a load of photo's in various stages of the build otherwise you will go through hell trying to prove that you built it and that it wasn't done by a company (different rules and regulations to go through on the test) This is not written down anywhere but trust me on this, as it is a pain trying to prove otherwise. Don't tell them someone else started it and you finished it, say that you bought it as a none started project.
The test fee is bloody expensive now (not far off £500 I believe) and few cars pass first time, the re-test is about £90.
I would go on to something like the locost forum to see what they are doing and having to say about the new test as they are still building cars to get through it whereas most GTM's have either been through it already or didn't need to because of the age of them.
Good Luck.

I think at least 1 of the last of the K3's passed an SVA test - but I'm not sure enough to put money on it.

If you need to IVA You're going to have fun, I'm afraid. I'm (re)building a Mk1 Rossa and the regs are a real pain. You can download them here http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/Transpor ... sion_4.pdf and it would be worth your while ploughing through them. For the actual registration process Google VOSA and you'll find it that way.

The main problems I'm having are glass (windscreen and doors must be E marked - no kite marks allowed now) fuel tank (location is ok but filler must be outside car: I think your problems might be vice versa to mine) steering wheel(collapsible column required and no holes etc in spokes which must also be padded) brakes (must be dual circuit) chassis number (must be at least 17 letters/numbers at least 3.5mm high and stamped on car) sharp edges (must have 2.5mm minimum radius and 19mm radius underneath dash) lighting (bonnet opens up with headlights so combined indicators/sidelights needed) wheels and tyres (no rubber must be visible at all when looking directly down on arch and also for a certain radius around wheel) instruments (also sharp edges  so have had to change bezels) etc etc Some of these are easily enough fixed (and might not apply to a K3) but take money - lots of it :( Test fee is £450 plus £90 for a retest..... You can read some of my meanderings here my-rossa-project-t485.html

I'm not trying to put you off but it's better to find out now before you get in too deep and spend tons of cash like I did. Never mind, it's still good fun

Good luck RaymondH with your Mk1 Rossa rebuild if you are having to (re)register it under these regs. Just a quick look through and a compare with my recently acquired Mk1 shows a lot of points not up to current standards. Although some may seem a bit petty, many are common sense and I think will guide my rolling restoration.

Post Re: Registering my K3
A lot of the things RaymonH has said will not apply to the K3, for example collapsible steering already in with Metro column, anti theft again in column, front screen is e marked, side screens may not be so remove them and put a T piece of rubber in the door top to seal. (if not on the vehicle they can't fail it). Wheels and tyres not an issue, radius to dash should be fine if my one is anything to go by, brakes/reservoir etc. no issues.
The one item I would need to get clarification of is the front and rear clam lights, if I understand what has been said does that mean that side lights and indicators have to be visible even when the clam is in the open position? if so this would need a bit of thought to overcome. Maybe you could make the clams unbolt as a unit so that it isn't something that could be done at the side of the road but only if you have two people and some tools (just musing here) I assume it is to ensure that lights of some sort or indeed hazard lights can be seen if you are broken down at the side of the road when you have the bonnet up.
Other than the last item I don't see too much to worry about Oh except the cost.
Good Luck.

Yes, the sidelightsand hazard warning lights must be visible from a certain distance all round (can't remember what off the top of my head) with all opening panels open. The sidelights in the headlight would fail because they sit back in the scoop. I bought a pair of combination lights from CBS for just a tenner. As reddi-eng says, most of it is common sense and it looks as if most of my issues don't apply to the K3 anyway but just be on your guard...

Problem is that you can then find yourself having to make fundamental changes to jobs you already thought were finished and pulling a "completed" car apart again to make it comply with the regs. It's a lot better to build with one eye on the regs as you can try to make sure it's right first time rather than having to revisit things later.

I would have thought that some where the wiring is wrong but the plugs all look ok any body with any sugestions I would be most greatfull .

A very poor earth somewhere and its using indicators as an earth or as you say a serious wire crossed somewhere. sounds like a fun one to solve
