At last its coming together

The rear bulkhead has been modified
Angle iron inner sills bolted in for strength
The hoop has a diagonal and crossbrace with bracing to the sills
The rear suspension is in place and works

By next weekend it should be on four wheels :D :!: :!:

Post Re: thunderossa
Interesting,

I was thinking on similar lines - similar modification to the roll bar but would use inch square tubing rather than angle and might have one length on the floor and one level with the top of the sill - with triangulation, naturally. Tie it in at the front with the dashboard support metalwork. Add a couple of bits of tubing accross the floor (like the bits the seats used to mount on). This gives the option of removing the whole floor section inside the tubing frame and replacing with a carbon fibre sheet.

Still, all i'm doing is thinking and talking about it - well done for getting on with it.

Regards,

Allen

Hi
Thanks for your comments

My problem is I am ramming out of time.
When the rear sub frame is in I will run box section from this to the angle and a cross bar to mount the seat on.
This will take the longitudinal forces on a drag strip

Once I have done the meeting I will be fitting a full cage from the hoop picking up the front sub frame... then the floor can be cut out

Hope to add photos of this next week.

Hi
4 wheels at last !!! :D

I still have a problem with the tie bars that stop it steering as they foul on the shockers.
I had built it with the calipers to the rear but then the shocks fouled the brake pipes. :?

The car is being brought to my house this week and so i will be able to work on it everyday

Ill keep you updated (how many days to go)

You could try using metro steering arms on the rear hubs? These are longer and might bring the steering tie-in bar out from the coil-overs.

This idea maybe totally naff but could you swap the arms side to side and re-engineer the inner mounts in front of the hubs :? :? :? :?

Thanks for your suggestions

Ill try the metro first as i have one

If not a new arm will have to be made as it has to pass between the hub and the calliper

Pics tomorrow

Thanks

What have you bolted the lower shock mount too?

For the steering arms I would look into making my own up that are a litte stiffer than the mini steering arms giving less toe compliance

Weight wise my bet is on 650Kg

Hi
My aim is for 600kg with a front subframe in and less when it is replaced.
In a couple of weeks i will be able to corner weight it.

Came up with two ideas today
one easy but ugly and weak
The other a better idea and will give me a good idea of what the finished part will do.
Both pick up one bolt hole,so i will cut and weld another arm then add a strength plate afterwards

West has the best idea but it will take time to have one made(must get a miller)

Let me know what you think

Post Re: thunderossa
Sorry West didnt read the first bit

I have welded a tube to the bottom arm ,webbed it underneath
Useing adjustable bottom arm and uprated tiebar any twist is taken out

It appears strong enough and does not twist but i cannot do a shock test.

Im hoping a day on the rolling road will test most things

Thanks
