Post Ticking Speedo
Just had the first trip around the block in my Mk1 Rossa and pleased to say no major issue to stop me venturing on a longer trip when time allows.

One thing I did notice was a "Ticking" inside the cockpit which I asume is the speedo cable.

This raises two questions:

1. Do you need to remove the whole dash to get at the back of the speedo (If so how?) or is there an easier way?

2. I seem to remember from an earlier motoring life that you don't oil speedo cables because the oild travels up into the speedo itself and oses damage? If correct what stops the ticking, a copper grease?

The ticking may be the magnet just catching the drum.

I originally filled my cable with oil and it then gets hot and expands when running, and the oil comes out the end - probably the instrument end from memory.
When you get the ticking noise, does this coincide with the needle on the speedo rising and falling?

First the good news, the ticking has stopped :) , the bad news is the inner cable has snapped

New cable on the way from Alan, any tips on fitting to a Mk1 Rossa?

if it's anything like a mini you'll have to employ the missus or a small child. Very tough to get at the engine end on a mini, but may be easier to reach with the engine round the other way so to speak. What speedo cable did you get and is it the same as the Coupe? I need one.

Alan at RossaBitz supplied the cable.

No problem fitting either end, problem was getting it through the tunnel  Tried puling throgh by the old one but it just snagged. Ended up taking out seats, central console and reae boot/body section so I could hook it through. Glad to say it all worked in the end. :)
