 Tracking
Hi all, I need to get the tracking done on my coupe. I have 13 inch wheels with 60 profile tyres all round. Can someone provide me with the correct settings, or at least a set of settings which would give a starting point, that I could show to the chaps at the tyre bay?
I have seen the figures given in the original build manual but wonder if these are applicable to my car. Alternatively are there any tips on this sort of thing such as tyre pressures or wheel spacers etc? The car is wandering about at speed and the steering is twitchy and very sharp. It was much better before I switched from 175/50/13 to 175/60/13 tyres at the rear. The fronts are 165/60/13.

 Re: Tracking
I have covered this in the past so a quick search on the forum should bring it up, I think it was on camelotR build thread.
Lets see how good the search function is on the forum.

 Re: Tracking
Front: 1.5 neg camber, 5 deg pos caster, 2-3mm toe-in, 18psi pressure.
Rear: zero camber, 3-4mm toe-in, 25psi pressure.
Is what I'm running

 Re: Tracking
Yes toe in.
The theory is that any movement in the tie rod, causes the wheels to move back, then they would run parallel while moving.

 Re: Tracking
Front: 1.5 neg camber, 5-6 deg pos caster, 2mm total toe-in, 18psi pressure. Rear: 1.5 neg camber, 2mm total toe in, 24psi pressure. this is my current set up My starting advice is very simular but with upto 4mm total toe in to start with front and rear,Once you get use to how a GTM handles you can start making small adjustments to get it how you like, When I was 1275 mg metro powered I use to love zero toe on the rear but I would only suggest this if you have rodend suspesnion it is possible on rubbers but they do give a alittle as this setting makes the rear quite lively. NEVER SET THE REAR TO TOE OUT Neil

 Re: Tracking
Neil,
I was talking front toe out not rear, I might though try the toe in on the front and see what the difference feels like, interested also to see how much toe in you are placing on your setups, I may play with this figure also.

 Re: Tracking
You've still got the Coupe then Andy, are you going to keep it now?
I was taught that on the front wheel drive cars (Mini, 1100,1300, Maxi etc) the front track should be around 1/16" toe out as when you apply power the wheels pull in to parallel, on the rear wheel drive cars around 1/16" toe in as the forward motion pulls the wheels out to parallel. The actual amount of toe in/out may vary depending on how rubbery the joints are but i still use the basic theory.
Try it Andy and see what you think.

 Re: Tracking
Im serious about the Rear, never ever go toe out.
But on the front I have been tempted as it will slow down turn in, It is something I will be tempted to try, my advice is do not go extreme, and rod end suspension may only see a benefit as you dont want any rubber flexing altering your geometry, I suspect it may end up being a track only setting personally

Tim, yes I still have the coupe, until someone offers me the money I want or close to it I'll keep it, was really just testing the waters, it is always for sale though I've always run toe out on the front of my minis and so far in the Coupe, I was interested to here some are running toe in on the front so I'll give it a try. Neil Neil, Yeah toe out on the Coupe would be a real handfull, no i've got mine at about 3mm total toe in on the rear of mine at the mo, seems to be quite well balanced.

 Re: Tracking
I had tried 1mm toe-out on the front of the Cox. It made the car uneven in the straight. Especialy when going fast. I have ended up with 1,5mms toe-in. I was told, that toe-out on the front makes entering the corners quicker, but to be honest, I have not felt anything like that.

As Tim says toe-out on the Mini is correct because it's front wheel drive. Even though all the suspension components are the same on the front of the GTM the wheels are no longer driven so they should move to toe-in. Iain
