Hi, been a member of GTM Owners club for close on 30 years. Built a Coupe in the early 80's bought from Peter Beck and Paddy Fitch from GTM Engineering in Sutton Bonington. The instruction manual and detailed drawings were lacking much detail at the time as it was the early days of their production run. It had a 1300 A series engine rebored, fitted with a road rally cam, twin carbs and lightened flywheel. I ran it for several years as day to day transport, then took it off the road for a re-paint due to severe gel coat fade. It's been in dry storage ever since.

 Re: New Member
I've been a member of the Mini Marcos OC for 21 years (Jeez that makes me feel old), but I have no intention of ever owning no 4.
Anyway, Hi!
It won't be far off mine then (no.86)
Mine looked good in 1991 too, but now it has degraded to reddish brown/pink.
Mine went from 17 years storage to drag racing at Avon in one easy step.
Get ready for pressure to recommission and engine swap.....

 Re: New Member
I'll have to check the chassis number I think it was 92. As for getting it back on the road, my son's keep at me to do it, I'm too busy restoring a couple of Land Rovers at present. I need a coupe windscreen for starters and I suspect the engine will need to be fully rebuilt or replaced. I always wanted to do a metro turbo conversion or something more modern. i don't know what engines people use now the 'A' Series is getting a bit long in the tooth.

I've looked at rotary Mazda engines in the past. Allegedly, it can be done. You need a gearbox with a big dimension between the input shaft and the driveshaft outputs so that the driveshafts clear the engine block. There's an old Toyota box that is a possibility.

Seen a rotary on a civic gearbox, later breadvan style, ep3 K20 engine. Whats been/being done off the top of my head. Plus, PoP, Nissan CG13DE on a 1.0 gearbox, then later the Almera 1.5 allegedly bolts straight on.
Avoid the 4a-ge - groinal stress.

 Re: New Member
Cheers guys, I'll need to have a look at some of the engines suggested. When I built mine there was someone racing one with and Alfa Sud engine I seem to remember. It did quite well on hill climbs I believe. A light weight aluminium 16 valve, fuel injected engine with a modern gearbox sounds like a good combination as the 'A' series although well tuneable is never going to match a modern engine. I heard the coupe was sold and was to be built by someone else is this true? I always fancied the Cox, somewhere I have an old car magazine somewhere with an article on one that did 0-60 in 6.7 seconds and 100 in just over 13 seconds in 1967, if I remember correctly, which was pretty impressive for the time. In the mid 80's I drove up to Newark Kit Car Show playing with a Porsche 944 on the dual carriageway I had 110 on the clock between roundabouts, and was partially deaf by the time I got there! Of course this was in the days of no fixed speed cameras and there was a lot less traffic on the road. The car was brilliant in the dry but lethal in the wet and overzealous use of the left foot could end (and did more than once) with you facing the wrong way very rapidly! Somewhere I have loads of photos of the build, I'll see if I can dig them out...

 Re: New Member
I've been think about an engine swap as well - I did open discussions with MED on a sprint spec A series for next year but since we were heading north of £5.5k our conversations were concluded with a "if you need to ask you cant afford it" sort of comment..........shame as I like the a series. It's left me in a bit of dilemma now.
I'd like to keep the car in line with it's build date so really want to go with a 1980's engine..........which is limiting!
