Coupe front damper extra support
Hi
My Coupe is 1989 and I have on more than one occasion had to repair the front damper location arm assembly due to the plate sandwiched between the subframe and the body fracturing by bending fatigue accross the holes. See sketch 014

The cure to avoid this or any future fractures is to add a support leg to stop the damper location arm flexing under load particularly with increased loads from stiffer competition damper units. See Photos

The top location needs a little more work since an hexagonal long nut has to be used to extend the threaded pin for the securing nut. The new arm should be secured to the extended top arm with a setscrew of an appropriate length. See Photo 005
You will notice that the extension spacer long nut allows the support arm to clear the diameter of the damper upper body and since it will be secured with a setscrew into the long hexigon nut, it allows more accurate marking out of the upper hole position prior to drilling.
Also note the use of sufficiently large tank washers either side of the damper bush to keep it in place.
I hope this helps and please take care because if you have a coupe and have not done this modification then you are very likely to suffer this type of failure at some stage.
