So the speedo stopped working .. cable and speedometer is good, as it works with a drill on the end of the cable at the engine side.. got it up to 40kph, the fastest the car has gone since I have owned it! I suspect it's not seating into the drive on the transmission properly. The end of the speedo cable looks like a flattened oval cable, not a square drive end... is something missing, or was this what was used? I had a lot of trouble getting the cable back onto the drive on the tranny, and maybe it's not properly seated..pretty difficult to see and get my hands in there. Any suggestions..

If I have to replace the cable what is the speedo cable from?

Found the problem.. end into the tranny seemed to be broken, filed a new square on the end.. and will put it all back together.. took the drive gear mechanism out to get it to all work.. my hands are a bit too big to get in there very easy!
