I will be using the solid color to keep with the 80's look rather than base clear... Mike

I have sorted all the obvious little defects..spent 2 hours going over the car with a light tube and marking everything with tape.. then hit every area with some polyester filler, and after curing, sanded each of these areas. Then cleaned up the dust and coated the car in a light dusting of black blocking spray..the the rest of the car will be blocked out to check for any other low spots or defects.... There were a lot of little pinholes that had to be filled as well as some slight scoring that I missed when sanding and filling the first time..

More sanding! This is the part I don't like, but I know has to be done..more time here, hopefully means a better final paint job!..

flippspeed, too bad you were not here..always good to have a pro to check out the work and point out anything wrong.. Got the car blocked out yesterday after a lot of sanding..found a couple of small defects and some low spots to clean up, then will shoot another 2 coats of the high build and sand that back with 400/600 to be ready for the color.. .. there are not a lot of flat surfaces on the car, everything has a lot of curvature, with the exception of the boot cover!

Well the car is all blocked and then some more touch ups required. I got a sample of a colored high solids primer / sealer that I am trying for the remaining high build touch ups, and then will spray the entire car with it as a sealer.. there are different mixing instructions for use as a primer vrs a sealer using the same base. I got it sprayed as high build and then tonight knocked back with 320.. then hopefully final 400 sand tomorrow and paint on the weekend. Here's a couple of pics after spraying the new high build. The other thing with it is that is goes on with a slight gloss, so you don't need to use a guide coat.. when you sand it back any low spots show up as glossy..

Shooting the whole car in this as a sealer should make the final color easier to cover as the car will already be red with the primer...

Got the painting done today.. one coat red sealer, followed by three coats of the final color..

Sealer on the rear panels and bumper.

Final color on the car, a lot more red than the sealer..

It will need a rubdown as the wind picked up and there is some dust in the surface, as well as a few spots with some orange peel finish..but overall it has turned out not too bad..

Now onto the interior and windows, followed by the rest of the car..

I have to sort out what to do with the seats as the quote for doing them up was more than buying new seats! I may do them myself or buy new seats.. not sure yet..

Thanks for the comments.. I will be respraying as when pushed out into the light today there are a few areas that did no totally cover, and a few runs and orange peel areas.. so will sand this back to get rid of the runs and orange peel and shoot hopefully for the last time.. ahhh more sanding!

Got the car sanded down with 800 and resprayed.. now just doing a color sand and buff of the car to bring out a nice shine.. I got a front emblem made up by a friend with a milling machine..he dropped by with the finished product today.. this will be buffed up and clear coated to keep the aluminum from oxidizing.. here is a few shots..it fits perfectly in the recess I made in the hood..

What you're doing now is a bit of a pain, but will determine how good the car looks later.. so patience .. It amazing how many people have said..gee you have made a lot of progress.. just because the color is on the car.. they don't realize how much work went into getting there..
