hi guys which is the best caliper to use on the rear for the handbrake set up, the vw golf or mgf, seems like theres alot of mods to be done to get them working has anyone had any luck with the mods,
I ran MGF ones for a couple of years before I took it apart to eradicate tin-worm and they will be going back on. I've posted quite a few bits of info on how to fit them - fitting the calipers and sorting the hydraulics is relatively easy (might need part of the machining done by a machine-shop if you don't have the kit/contacts). The handbrake cable is the biggest job and always sounds terribly complicated when I try to explain what I did but it's not really difficult.
I've no personal experience of them but I don't think the work to fit the VW calipers is actually any different - just different dimensions.
hi Iain have had a look at the posts but could'nt make me mind up which ones to go for but you've answered my question, mgf ones it is many thanks for your time
I only used the VW golf ones as I had them to hand and they seemed a good modern setup with plenty of spares available. Both require modification to the hubs so its just which ever one is easier to source for you
