Just a quick question on the wiring of these screens, as a fair few of you now have these in your cars what final wiring did you settle on, is it similar to what Dino suggested (i.e. 27.5amp wire, 20amp fuse, 30amp relay etc etc) or something else, I'm just about to finalise my wiring so confirmation would be appreciated. Also if anyone can tell me at what positions are the terminals on the screen, mine is still all wrapped up in the box and I really don't want to disturb it yet. I need to get the delivery wires in position before the interior is done.

I'll double check tonight, but I'm pretty sure that the wires for the screen are on the passenger side at the bottom.

I need to check the current on the too, I've lashed up my screen once, but should get the clamp meter on it to see what it is pulling.

Right, I've dug my screen out and chucked it across my battery. According to my ammeter, it is pulling 6 amps at battery voltage (12.4v, not 13-14v which is what is would be with the alternator). So you might expect to see a slightly higher current than that when the engine is running, but not more that 7 amps. That is unless my screen isn't working correctly, but the cables are fairly thin and I wouldn't want to be sticking anywhere near 30 amps though them.

Oh, and the connections are at the bottom on either side, so you can connect one of them to the chassis and the other to either a relay or a switch capable of carrying the current.

Hope that helps

Thanks heaps Tim, it saves me having to get mine out of the loft

Agreed, on both counts.
Just for clarification, the screen elements are insulated within the glass so it doesn't matter which side is connected to live.

Hopefully this won't add to the confusion -- according to the owners handbook the heated screen in my Mondeo has 2 x 40amp fuses for LH and RH sides -- I assume the element is in 2 halves -- and the rear screen is 25amps. Heated seats, if I had them, would be 15amps for each seat. I think I'd start with Dino's suggestion, check it works and then maybe move down until a fuse blows and move back one step.

You've probably guessed I'm not an electrician!

7.5A which is the next size up, is probably a bit close to the running current, so I'd go for a 10A fuse, unless you are planning on running other services from that fuse.

I don't think the Coupe screens are as quick to clear as the ones on modern cars, so won't take anywhere near the same amount of current.

I'd like to hear how well they can clear the frost in the morning. :?: :D :?:
