Hi this is my first post on here. I have recently purchased this Cox GTM from my good friend Tim Whight, he bought the car a year or two ago with the intention of restoring it but has decided to focus on a Mini Sprint project. The Cox is still in Tims garage at the moment while I make some space here by finishing the restoration of a 1960s Innocenti Mini. The plan is to try and use the existing gear linkage and keep as much or the car as original as possible. I'll probably go for a tuned 1100 engine as I've built a few in the past and have plenty of spares kicking about, it should also be a bit kinder to the old style gearbox. I'm currently working my way through the loft full of old Mini books and copies of Triple 'C' for info/reports but would appreciate any further info from you guys. I'll join the club and post a thread in the 'members cars' section once I collect the car and make a start. |

Thanks for the welcome! Well a huge penny dropped the other night when I was looking at the original press advert. Back in the early 80s I went to Stockport College and shared a house about a mile away from the old garage at Hazel Grove. I was a bit worried that the supermarket, were as a student I bought out of date Newcastle Brown and oh so tasty Findus Crispy Pancakes to keep me going, might be the site of the old garage, but looking on streetview it is now a MotorSave? I must have driven past this place several time in my old Mini on my way down the A6 in search of the great driving roads near Buxton and beyond. |

Not knowing the area, I was under the impression that the Ford garage on the corner of Buxton road and Tannock road was where Mr Heerey worked. Anyone know the answer |

My Uncle who remembers the cars says it was where I pointed the google camera at, his neighbour was building one, he recalls seeing lots of stuff made from alloy checker-plate, the builder worked on the buses and got the plate from work. |

Well thanks to Tim and his dad the Cox is now in my garage. The plan is to take it to the track day at Blyton in a few weeks time and hopefully get feedback from current and previous GTM owners. The restoration of my Mini is almost complete so work should start on the Cox soon after Blyton. |

As there has been a bit of movement recently I thought I'd update this thread. The GTM is over at my parents now while the Frogeye is out and about. DVLA are still taking their time but we've decided to make a start. The gearbox has been rebuilt, head done, 1070 crank machined and after one or two trips to MiniSpares North I have two big boxes of shiny new suspension and engine parts, just the engine to build and that's the big money stuff out of the way, the rest is down to hard work and elbow grease. My dad and nephew Oliver have been working hard recently chipping the old paint from the shell, the top surfaces were brittle... |
