Hi Ken by our standards its cool now, 28-30 by midday 14-15 at night. I had a little browse on the classic mini forum, there was a thread on there in 2008 about installing a/c and it sounds like they used a double pulley on the alternator with a 2nd belt to the compressor mounted underneath, which is what I'm planing to do, but I don't like the sound of the extra load added to the alternator/water pump belt, I would like to see how the factory did it on the Japan export Mini's, my best bet at the moment is to modify the crank pulley, or make a new pulley, when the engines out and up on the bench next weekend I will have a better idea (I hope) Regards to sunny Scotland John |

The AC mini, had a dual wheel on the ac compressor I think. One belt does alternator one belt does AC and water pump/fan http://www.somerfordmini.co.uk/eshop/in ... age&id=105 |

And it looks like the alternator is hung on the upper lugs on the compressor?? |

All very interesting, nice to see how the professionals did it I had not thought about extended studs off the head and not sure I could do it as I have a head steady off the thermostat housing which could be in the way? |

An idle hour before my workers came into the factory so I stripped and cleaned 20years of crud from my alternators previous life in my bush race Mini and replaced its 6202 bearings with Mr SKF finest John |

Made mounting brackets for the compressor fitted onto the engine mount over Christmas, back to work today will get gussets welded in the mounting bracket and a long nut turned up in the lathe for the second adjuster to fit the other side of the adjuster for both alternator and compressor, then make a new pulley, but struggling to get the pulley bolt out and no rattle gun available here will make a tool with 2 pegs to fit into the pulley with a long handle John

Would somebody like to show pictures and a few dimensions of the engine cover hooks that hold it in place on its leading edge just below the rear window, it looks like the hook must be angled to allow the rim of the engine cover to enter the rain gutter around the engine cover hole, I got too carried away with the angle grinder and took the end of my L-H little pinky, which stopped play on Sunday just before lunch time John |

Many thanks Ken, i think I've said that before a few times I have my new modified crank pulley with additional vee bit to drive the a/c compressor, all nice and shiny will take pics and post, though I don't expect too many coupe owners will be in a rush to copy with your UK winter temperatures John |

Was unable to reply here last night for some reason. But here is the page from build manual. Heating in my Coupe is a bit of a strange one. In the cooler temperatures we have most of the time, the thermostat doesn't open so the pipes to the front of the car don't really get hot. I have a small PC radiator/fan as a heater and this doesn't put out too much heat. In summer, the engine gets nice and warm ,so do the pipes inside the tunnel and the car roasts. We normally drive with the windows slid open on both sides, front one side, back the other as it saves my sons head falling out when he sleeps. I have rigged up a valve to the heater systems, so one of these days I can connect up a hose from the heater to a Triumph eyeball vent on the dash to allow some cooler air in that way. |

What no toothed trigger wheel for the mapable ignition ? May as well do it now, as you know you will need it in the future. |

I have my 20 something year old Alden distributor with delayed initial advance to cope with our poor petrol If i keep doing mods I will never finish the car, I have more than Kano made bits on the car already. John |
