Post Handbrake cable route
What is the forums view on the best route for the handbrake cable? Does anyone know what the build manual recommends?

Sorry for late reply - only just seen this post. The build manual isn't that informative, I'm afraid, but have scanned the relevant page. Not sure how to attach it to a post, so will try and PM you.

Mine come off the Mini handbrake, straight down the last bit of the tunnel and up and diagonally over the ends of the engine, before looping down to the wheels.

OK that's the same as mine. Does yours then pass through a hole in the top of the wheel arch or go down the side and under the bottom edge of the wheel arch?
Many thanks
Eric

Down the side.

They need space to move up and down with the wheels.

With the GTM handbrake cables it is important not to restrain the cable runs near the hub ends as the outer sheath is the part of the cable which pushes the brake lever (the inner cable is anchored to the brake backplate).

If you solidly mount the outer cable anywhere on the chassis then suspension movement would push on the brake lever and apply the handbrake to a wheel when you hit a bump.

It seems they must have changed the design on later cars (mines chassis 228 - 1986) because the cable outers are fixed to a bracket on the steering arm bolts and the inner connects to the lever at the bottom of the hub. The cable still moves up and down with the hub.

which car did the header tank come from? I need one for the front rad but all the modern units have many connections.

Jedi Race Cars do a nice header tank using a mini pressure cap for Jedi's :) no I am not on commission from Jedi, but that is what I will use and have fitted to my Jedi :D

Cables are routed similar to Dino's picture but ever so slightly different to get around the larger engine

I'm not sure to be honest but lots of BL cars from the 70's have them:
Austin 1100s, Land Rovers and such like...also works Minis but don't mention that when you buy one or you'll never be able to afford it!!

My Range-Rover had one ('79 V-Reg) it was metal with a band/strap to secure it to a bracket rather than mounting lugs like that one but the rest of the shape was identical.

I've seen them on a good number of 70's and early 80's Fords too.

My header tank came from a Rover 200.
