Post Coupe engine bay cross member removal.
Engine bay cross member removal.
Considering the obvious advantages of taking a mini engine out of a coupe from above, can anyone give details of how to modify the engine bay framework cross member, such that it is removable but sufficiently secure when reinstalled?

Theoretically you should be able to do away with it completely.

Beef up the top bars as they are the ones in torsion.

fillet everything else to stop sideways twist.

Sheet on the inside of the side triangles to help.

Personal view.

It is better to have it than not. Ideally you want one on each side but not possible due to engines.
will try and grab a snap of how mine is done.

Malc you can get an aseries out the top with it in place it is just tricky and requires an engine tilter on your crane and looseneing the subframe top mounts slightly to let it drop a little, this was certainly possible on my coupe when it was a series powered. i only went to a removable brace when I went honda, that is like surgery getting the engine/box in and out.

anyone have any pictures of this? i have a few ideas in my head but want to see what others have done. Would it be ok to do away with the angled bar that the battery usually sits on?

Move the battery up the front then you don't need the angled bar  I sat the battery on the left side of the front subframe in my old Cox, also help put some weight at that end.

Mine has one on each side, permanently fixed, and the engine comes out the top

Well this is what i came up with.....

probably end up nut and bolting it through the original frame, need to whip the engine out and see if works, as i think it might be tight on the transfer case as there is a 25mm stub of the orginal frame in place. We shall see!
