Post Straight steering column
Hi All
I intend to build a short custom column on my GTM with 2 UJ's to get it to the correct place to meet the rack, making the steering column in line not offset, has anybody tried this? I think it should be pretty straight forward, you can get all the required bits off Car builders solutions.

I have a single u/j in my steering column to correct the pinion angle pointing in to the center of the chassis due to my turning the pinion around in the rack housing, it now sticks out of the shim plate and the original hole is plugged, as I could not find a l-h rack here and had 2 good spare r-h racks

I think it is definitely worth the effort, I will have to get the outer tube of the column made specially but everything else is easy to order.
John, did you turn the rack over? Does that not drop it nearer the pedals? The other good reason to add in 2 uj's is to get best angle to miss the pedals I think.

certainly adding one uj makes a huge difference as this is what I did, putting two in would be better still only reason I did not do it was I wanted at the time to keep the triumph column for ease.

I turned the rack over and the u/j allowed the pinion to come through the footwell facing up to give a little more for my feet, very tight in a left hand drive, I had to mount the peddle box with brake and clutch peddles to the left side of the rack with an extension pad on the brake peddle passing under the column, if I had big feet LH drive would not be possible
2 u/j's would allow the pinion to be at an even steeper angle, but finding something to fit from our scrap yards is not easy, nothing "Brit" here.
I don't have a steering column tube, I use the column running in a spherical bearing hung from a bracket on the roll cage cross tube above my knees. save a little weight

I plan to use a short column and a fabricated bracket bolted to the bulkhead that is adjustable in angle and length, I'll post some pictures when I have drawn it all up.
