Ref the clutch return spring -- with judicious use of a hammer you can bend the bracket that fits on the arm so that it sits horizontal under the chassis frame. With a bit of jiggling the spring will still fit and find its way to the other small bracket that fits on the bleed nipple. The spring sits very close to the gaiter and in some cases may rub so a tie wrap round it might avoid it coming off. The spring leverage ratio is reduced a little but I don't think this matters in practice. Hope this helps. Steve |

Time for an update, not had much time lately due to revision for my GCSE exams. Inspired by Andys 83 coupe (now the LuxSpeed coupe) it was decided to fit a bias pedal box, this also gave me a good opportunity to learn to weld. The front subframe has been fitted, we are trying coil springs all round in place of rubber cones, there are softer springs on the front and more firm springs at the rear. I like where this thread is going. Should be a beauty when you're finished. You've fitted the same dampers as I have - they've worked well so far on my car in all conditions. I'd love to try springs instead of rubber cones but don't want to mess with the car too much at the moment as I've finally been enjoying driving it for the last couple of years, after owning it since '98. Keep it up |

Time for quite a large update! Firstly the gear change has been sand blasted and powder coated and has now been fitted to the car, with some minor reshaping to get it to work smoothly. Attachment: Gear Change.jpg [ 304.64 KiB | Viewed 11893 times ] Attachment: Gear Change 3.jpg [ 277.7 KiB | Viewed 11893 times ] A miniature heater has been fitted mounted on aluminium brackets that I created. The holes for the hoses have been moved from the side of the tunnel to the top for convenience. Attachment: Heater.jpg [ 239.37 KiB | Viewed 11893 times ] Attachment: Heater 2.jpg [ 261.13 KiB | Viewed 11893 times ] A Specialist Components 5 port engine management kit has been fitted and is set to give the engine some life! It has a single 50mm throttle body. The wiring harness for this has been fitted, and some of the high pressure hoses have been fitted, along with a fuel pressure regulator on the rear bulkhead. The stainless steel exhaust manifold is also a Specialist Components item and has points to mount Lambda sensors. Unfortunately the shiny exhaust has been wrapped to reduce heat in the engine bay. The master cylinders for the bias brake system and clutch have been attached to the pedal box assembly and all brake lines front and rear have been fitted. The front radiator (Vauxhall combo) has been fitted with not much room to spare. The radiator has been rubber mounted on brackets made out of aluminium strip, and the fan on the rear fixed using more metal strip. The inlet and outlet of the radiator is attached to the stainless pipes down the centre of the car using flexible rubber hosing. The radiator also has a useful small bleed valve in case of an airlock. Where does the silencer can go on that exhaust system? Be ready for some smoke from that exhaust wrap too - I tried some black once and all the black burnt off nearly choking the whole county. The wrap was almost white after a couple of week. Have to say I'm loving the quality and attention to detail in this build |

sanzomat wrote: Where does the silencer can go on that exhaust system? The exhaust shown in the photos is just a standard, off-the-shelf exhaust manifold. Once the body has been fitted, we are going to get a custom exhaust made which should end up looking something like Derek Hambly's exhaust in the 'New Coupe Project' thread. I still can't attach any photos, sorry! Ben |

We have chosen to fit a new alloy fuel tank, this one was made up by concept racing and has a VDO fuel sender and is foam filled. During the designing we changed the small welded on brackets on the original design fuel tank, to use straps instead. The fuel pump and filter are both mounted on the bulkhead. There are outward and return pipes due to the fuel injection system, the rubber hoses attach to two metal fuel lines running down the centre of the car. We have modified the dash support rail to increase strength. Attachment: 20171104_164927.jpeg [ 68.46 KiB | Viewed 11201 times ] The speedo is powered by a mini spares electronic speedo adapter and the tacho gets the signal from the ECU. The two smaller digital gauges are for oil pressure, water temperature, fuel level and voltage. Also the horn has been fitted to the uprights of the radiator mounts. Hello, Thanks for the support so far! It is now complete enough to run the engine although there have been some teething problems with charging, we have now fixed the problem after many days of head scratching and part changing, we asked the guys on the mk1 forum and the first thing suggested worked. For those of you wondering it was to do with using an LED warning light. Anyway, it is running well now although it will need a rolling road session in the future. Also, the aforementioned dashboard has been laser cut out of brushed aluminium at a mates work and we fashioned a bending jig to form it. Most things have been fitted to it, just the switches need to be wired. Finally, we temporarily fitted the body and bonnet to see what it looked like. Next job is thinking about properly fitting the body and doors.
