Evening all
Dragged what is left of my GTM back to the ranch last weekend. Pile of rust that was a chassis is gone to the local scrappy, I even got a whole £6 for it!
The body will live under a tarp till the workshop is finished but I thought I would ask what people make of this scoop on the passengers side rear, is it original? My feeling is not.

I've seen them on quite a few drivers sides,
and
I've seen one, on the passengers side, but only one.
But........

I have seen a couple but smaller compared to that example, look at Dinos rebuild thread you can make it out on some of the pics on the drivers side similar shape but smaller.

On my old Cox I had air intakes on both sides the R-H was a cold air feed to the oil cooler exiting out the top of the engine cover and the L-H side was feeding the carb air box.

I have seen a few on cars but can see none from period shots so I think it is something added on later, my car had the rad in the rear so I suspect it was added for that. judging by the amount of chicken wire, filler and fag packets holding it on I don't think it was a factory option!
Another hole to fill....

Personally I'm all for originality, (my current Cox spec excluded  )

My opinion, I think it looks s##t, sorry but I've never liked it. As you rightly said it looks like it's been stuck on,
And if you have a half decent rad and bleed the system properly it won't get hot, mine doesn't.

Exactly Stuart, it looks worst in the flesh! I will have a front rad anyway and keep the one on the other side which will feed air to the oil cooler. I am thinking of building an air box to get air from the engine cover grill for the carbs, I saw a nice setup on a racing imp at Brands earlier this year I might copy.

I was just about to open a thread on this -- mine's got a 'home made' effort on the LHS. I'm planning to get rid.

Nick,
If you put a cold air feed to an airbox from engine cover I think you will find the engine cover is a low pressure area and will draw air out rather than what you need, air to be forced in, I had an oil cooler with an outlet under the engine cover and it worked well.
