I have a 1986 13 inch coupe. The top suspension arms have a block and plate welded on top to contact the bump stop rubbers. This reduces travel of the top arm by 1 inch. This almost stops the back tyre from going into the wheel arch but the front of the car needs to come down but will be resting on the bump stops. Has anyone seen this before, was it a factory thing or was it the builders work? I intend to remove the front ones but not the back, unless there is a reason for them. John |

The standard mini upper arms have a flat bit on top to contact the bump stops on full compression, if you increase the height oft his flat bit you will reduce suspension travel. John |

Yes, a photo would help, but it will take me a few days to do it. The blocks are welded on top of the flat on the top arms. This will reduce travel. I have hi-lo's. The back was low and the tyres were catching the arches on bumpy b roads. The back is as recommended by the factory and not catching anymore. The front is running high. I think it was done by the builder to clear the arches when running 13 inch on mini suspension. The wheels are factory Allycats on 175 or 185 50. So not that tall. John |

There are lots of GTM's with 13" wheels where the owner hasn't welded a block on the top arm to get the clearance. sounds like a bodge because the guy couldn't set it up properly. |

I used to run a Cox made for 10" wheels using 175-50x13" in the early 1980's without touching the arches, 50 series tyres were chosen as the rolling radius was only very slightly bigger then 165-70x10, I did have to extend the arches as the race scrutineers objected to the tyres sticking out slightly, but never had to cut the arches to give clearance. I used the bigger Hydro bump stops on the rear, they used to be sold as competition bump stops and the standard mini bump stops mounted on the subframe at the front, John |

Hello Andy, It is not the wet suspension parts. The rubber bump stop is pointed, conical and the block is not bolted with the damper. I think I will keep the back ones as I have raised the back to recommended and the suspension is so stiff I can't see the bump stops getting used. The front raised platforms will go, so I can lower the front of the car. John |
