Early Cox information help requested
I have acquired the Cox from Jeroen Booij in Holland and it is back in the UK now. I don't have any documentation with it and after a little research have found out that it Originated in Bolton, possibly late 1967, moved to Swansea, then to Belgium and now back in the UK.
I have found 3 possible, but tenuous, clues to it's identity: 2 small (rivet?) holes in the steel monocoque alongside the right front shock absorber, approximately 2" apart 007 stamped into the steel monocoque above/alongside the front subframe upper mounting (under a layer of mid-grey paint which looks to be the first colour coat applied to the bare steel, covered by a layer of very bright orange paint) Light Metallic Blue paint on the doors which appears to be the first top coat colour.
Any assistance in identifying more information about this car would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Trevor

Re: Early Cox information help requested
We have traced the original builders location and are working on his identity. The car was a kit most likely built up using a written-off but nearly new Austin 1100 complete engine and two second hand mini subframes. A trip to Manchester is now planned to gain access to Local authority registration records for around September/October 1967 to see if any Cox was registered.

Not a single Cox was registered in the Bolton/ Greater Manchester area in 1967 or 1968. Back to the search.

Just a thought but did you try Stockport town hall records…

Re: Early Cox information help requested
Another thought, given the nature of Kit car builders, there is a good chance that even though it might have been purchased in 67/68, it might not have been finished for a year or 2... Cheers Simon G

Re: Early Cox information help requested
It probably was not registered as a Cox, but kept the donor Mini registration.

Re: Early Cox information help requested
Thank you guys for all the information. Never thought about Stockport so another trip is looming. It is quite possible that the original donor registration could have been used and yes it could have been much later at the end of the build.(was that a common thing?) I am planning a trip to talk to the guys in Bolton but need to go armed with a bit more information to make it worthwhile. Other progress: Full FIA rollcage now ready for installation Purchased a new roof section from Hambly Sportscars (Most helpful family business) to replace the badly repaired roof following the removal of a sunroof by a previous owner. Happy days in the shop to look forward to.

Re: Early Cox information help requested
The reason I suggested Stockport town hall was, there is another 1967 early cox a few numbers after your (007) and it was registered there…… If it was me, I’d think it was worth asking a few questions there…

Re: Early Cox information help requested
I now have a name and a potential address for the vendor of the car from Bolton. Unable to verify this at the moment but ever more hopeful of getting a trail back to the original builder of kit 007. It's very time consuming and a bit frustrating

Re: Early Cox information help requested
Hi John I will persevere but pre -Internet does mean I am relying on living memory and as time marches on it's getting ever more difficult, paper trails hardly exist and DVLA have effectively removed or failed to save valuable historical documents. Previous owners of this car can't be expected to remember all the details or to have saved anything tangiable, even if there was anything to start with. If the car was not registered as a COX GTM then I will have to be very very lucky to find anything in any records. I hope my final lead will offer up a little mor information but I'm not too hopeful

Re: Early Cox information help requested
Hi Trevor, The Coupe I'm building (for far too long) has a chassis obviously used and an unused but very weathered body, that was without holes for lights or bonnet catches, no chassis number or registration to follow, so I would not even try, Good luck with the search. John
