I took a notion to check my cylinder compressions today and they are 180 - 185 cold and 210 - 215 hot. Does that seem about right for a 1312 A series with 1500 miles on the clock? I didn't expect them to be as high as that. It's standard spec apart from the rebore and (I think....!) a Piper 285 cam. Cheers.

That's good, the more you squeeze the bigger the bang :)

Yep sounds good, do you know what compression ratio you have as a high ratio gives higher readings

I have no idea what the compression ratio is  It's good to know that they're ok, though, given the hassles I had with the darned thing smoking really badly when it was first fired up after its rebuild - it still produces a little blue smoke after ticking over for a bit when it's stinking hot. The first MOT is due in a few weeks time so I'll have to take it for blast to clean it out on the way to the garage
