Post Pete's Coupe Number 2
A few pics of the Sheffield Coupe... got it back last week (just!)... took some winching to get it on the trailer, and a large lever to raise the sills to get it off again... :(

As you can see, the floor is almost non-existent (what's left of it is dragging on the ground) and both sills are 90% detached from the surrounding bodywork (nearside sill supported by the screen support bar only, offside sill is no more than a thin flap of metal at the rear!))... transporting it effectively broke its back... surprising that the screen and 'glass bodywork survived.

Arnie said it had been standing for what he thinks is 12 years, though according to the DVLA website, it's not been taxed since about 1991... Which brings me to another concern... the reg doc... It's registered as a "Morris 2-Axle-Rigid Body Sports", no mention of "GTM" or "Coupe", first registered 01/10/1973 (and it's a 13" model) and listed as a "kit - made from new parts", the GTM issued chassis number has merely been prefixed to the donor vehicle chassis no., the car is yellow (with some red evident underneath) but is showing as green on the reg doc...

All in all, not good.. :(

I'm thinking that it went past the point of restoration some years ago... appreciate comments though...

The logbook is fine - dvla computer used to be totally inflexible when given "out of the ordinary" information. I've seen a few kits listed as "twin axle rigid body sports" or similar.

What a surprise, it's red underneath!

If all the rotten flat panels were cut out and replaced it wouldn't look half as bad, and that'd be pretty easy/cheap to do. IMO.

But then again pete, it wasn't the chassis that you were after IIRC.

And don't scrap the chassis if you decide not to take it on, i'll give you a few pennies for it as-and-when.

I've started to strip things off it, mainly in order to preserve them from further damage, and will report back when I can see more of the tub... though, from what I've seen having emtpied all the cr*p that had been thrown into it, the only thing stopping it from collapsing is the (rather floppy!) central tunnel... One thing that seems intact is the rear bulkhead and rear frame... oh and both subframes look fine too...

Engine-wise, it's just a bog standard 998cc engine with a few easy (read cheap!) mods... such as Howley water heated manifold, what looks like the GTM spec exhaust manifold and an ageing Lumenition ignition unit...

The most annoying aspect of it is that inside, under all the cr*p, I found a perfectly serviceable sunroof glass... this would have conveniently fitted into the sunroof frame (for which it was made) that is currently fitted to the roof of the very same vehicle... and unbelievably prevented a good deal of the last 12 or more years of rain ending up on the wrong side of the bodywork... The addition of a decent tarp wouldn't have harmed it too much either, or maybe a dry barn (that didn't get burnt down anyway.. )...

A week later than anticipated (pesky work and weather!)...

I've removed the main bodyshell (which was far too easy to do..) to find that this "unstressed" part of the Coupe was acting as the main stressed member.. the result of removing it caused each end of the tub to collapse inwards and buckle sideways, so much so that I could not longer push it about on its wheels.. Appears that the tunnel had little or no serviceable metal at either end and therefore no strength..

Both subframes are now off and appear to be ok... the tub is a different story, though.. pics attached.
