Post subject:  Dermot's hillclimb R1 coupe
Thought i'd better put my project on this page to motivate me to do it step by step.

It's a coupe with custom wide arches.

The radiator has a custom air scoop to help keep things cool and also
help keep the nose down.

The interior is as basic as they come with the usual switches, warning lights and
removable steering wheel.

The wheels are 8x13 front and 10x13 rear. Fill the arches nicely.

This is the donor R1 for the project.

Here is the first mock up for the engine. I have to move the bulkhead forward a
couple of inches to leave good clearance for the diff assembly.

Where's the electrical kill switch.

Triangle seems to point at wiper, and I can't see it in the other shots ?

Any chance of a photo showing the rear shock mount at the bottom where it attaches to the hub, I'm playing around whith ideas as well and Im kean to see one that has already been done.

If you look at the fourth picture down you can just see it between the wiper and the windscreen. Its black but will be replacing with a nice new red one soon.

Somewhere I have a picture of this car at Curborough in the late 80's or early 90's (once you've seen the sub frames you never forget - how many holes??)

No one ever forgets the car with the subframe made of swiss cheese. :D

Had some spare time this morning so i removed all the wiring from the R1
and tagged it.

My project has been neglected lately because over the last few months i,ve been busy getting married. But now i,m back and as a gift for leaving the R1 Cox on her own for so long i built her a brand new workshop. We're friends again and i have alot more time on hands and alot less money, which means alot more weekends spent in my new workshop. :D

Have you sorted a diff and driveshafts out?
Ive ended up scraping the mini subframe and building one just to fit all the bits in.
It seemed hard to get the diff across to match the bike chain
Any advice will help

Hi Thunderossa

I haven't sorted the diff assembly yet as i have to cut the bulkhead and rollbar and so i can move the engine forward to allow for the diff setup. As for advice , i have been following an R1 mini project and it has helped me work a few things out in my head.

Dermow,

Try these guys for rear diff assembles, these are the most extreme diffs I have seen for bike engined car/karts/race cars. These have been developed to take serious punishment and currently my mate is running one hooked up to a extremely modified TL1000 engine with huge torque figures.

You would need to change the wishbone configuration but the diff would be ideal

If you are wanting a reverse gear you can fit a second drive gear hooked up to a high torque starter motor running in reverse. This is the way I have seen race cars get round rules of having to have a reverse gear.

Nice

I've looked into using these types of diff cradle before and they require alot of room that you just don't have in the coupe.

I came across a diy version that's in a mini subframe that might work.

I'm going to play around with these ideas as i really want the engine looking forward but if all else fails i will reverse the engine an get a promotive kit.
