I have inspected the Cox a bit. It looks more-or-less complete, but I have some unveiled problems.
- it looks that the heater was not the normal mini item mounted on the side of the engine, as the place is rather narrow, and there is no way for the hot air to go. Was it front mounted?
- I have got a rather strange looking fuel tank with the car, but with only an opening on its side and nothing else. How was it originaly?
- Can I use the magic wand type of gearbox, or only the remote one?

When you wrote "Heater" did you mean "Radiator"?
The Cox had sheet metal rear towers to support the top of the subframe, these do not allow enough room to fit a side mounted standard Mini radiator.
My 1967 Cox had a front mounted radiator.
Originally I think they just mounted a Mini petrol tank in the front subframe.
In my 1970 GTM there was a custom made tank with a recess in the front face for a fan and the tank had a double skin on the front face with some sort of insulation between the skins to stop the petrol being heated by the radiator.
Your gearchange will depend on the type of gearbox you have fitted?
To be historically accurate you should fit the "remote" type gearbox and use a cut down remote extension.
Just make sure that your chassis has the full bottom skin attached to the central tunnel - quite often previous owners have been inclined to take a short cut and have hacked off the bottom of the tunnel to gain access to the linkage when they have had problems - this seriously weakens the structure of the monocoque!!

Yes, You're right. Heater = radiator. I have found some of the cooling system's pipes under the car, but no radiator. I will find one suitable for sure, though I would like to fit the "correct one" if possible. At the front I have found some kind of tank, which seems to fit, but nothing else. I would insert a pic if only I know how... :oops:

The floor looks intact, but the rear "firewall" was cut to gain access to the distributor (?). Though the whole floor needs to be replaced with the sills, soo structural stifness is not a factor today. I will make it much stronger using 1.5mms thick sheet metal and much more strenghtening ribs.

I have another question: how did they mounted the hand brake. I cannot find its original situation.

I have had a look at your website - some very nice projects!

On my 1967 Cox, the handbrake appeared to be fitted to the outside of the driver's seat (between the seat and the inner sill.
The cables exiting the rear bulkhead on the right hand side.
I suspect that the positioning and routing of the handbrake was left up to the individual constructor.

Ah soo..., this was Your Coupe. I have found this article on the net, though in soo bad format, I could not read it :(. Is it possible that You can make a photo-copy or a scan for me please? If You have any expenses, I am happy to compensate it.

If only I could get an original build manual... Does any of You have such item? Maybe...

I'll try and re-scan the article from the original CCC magazine (I only had a photo copy when I first scanned the article).
The images on my website were done a few years ago (before broadband) therefore the size of the images was kept quite small to avoid slow download speeds.http://www.westhouse.plus.com/gtm674.htm

Hi Gergo,

Well done, if you need more infor let me know. I have most of the original drawings (copied from blueprint) in scale so that you can see very clear the way these cars are build. I also have a complete build manual for you. Also I have the complete build from the Cars and Car Conversions from 1971, meaning I have all te magazines. Let me know if you need copies etc.

re stripping paint from GRP. I've used a product called Dilunet in the past to strip paint from GRP boat bodies. It's not solvent based so it doesn't attack the GRP but the downside is that it doesn't remove all types of paint - it's basicaly a bit of pot-luck whether it will remove the paint you have.

I've bought it from various chandleries in this area but not sure on whether you would be able to get it in your country or what the rules would be on this type of chemical compared to here in the UK. I think I've got a part bottle in the garage - I could look at the label to see if there is any manufacturer info if you think that would help.
