 K3 Wheels & Tyres
I want to upgrade my 13" metro wheels to 14" wheels. I think the 13" look too small and I am concerned that 15" will look too big. However I am having a real job finding anything suitable. I like the idea of minilites but can't find any with the right offset. Has anybody any experience / ideas as to wheels that fit, please?

Thanks Malcolm. These look great. What style are they? I can't find them on the Team Dynamics web sites.

 Re: K3 Wheels & Tyres
hi john, have recently put new wheels on my libra they are team dynamics but had to be drilled to fit the rover metro stud pattern you will find it difficult to sorce wheels that fit because of the stud pattern, you need a dealer that can advise you on what wheels you can have drilled to fit but the choice is limited, only other option is converters so you can change the stud pattern, also did you recieve my email about you membership if not contact me on 01384 894366, cheers bob h memb sec.

Hi Bob, Thanks I did get e-mail re membership - apologies for not replying, it slipped off my radar. I have been in touch with Team Dynamics and they have promised to let me know what may fit. Do you know what size and offset yours are? John

 Re: K3 Wheels & Tyres
Hi, I've not touched the K3 for a very long time but last week I got it from under the cover to rip it apart and see how bad the rear end was after the accident, well the rear subframe was completely bent but the rest of the suspension and the mounting points on the car were fine, so I swapped in an MGF front subframe which is the same apart from some extra brackets and strengthening bits that I removed so things are looking better and that is where I come in on this topic, I have noticed that the front wheels have been hitting the inner bodywork over the course of the years and that is with the original 13" rims with 185 tyres, I too am going bigger on the wheels, up to 15", and yes I know I will have to widen the arches to cover the tyres but that isn't an issue, my issue will be that I assume the tyres will also hit the inner bodywork and was wondering if anyone knew of any steering stops that are readily available for the metro rack. I have had a similar issue with another kit and the way of overcoming that one was to install jubilee clips onto the rack (I wasn't keen but it does do the job and after a fair few thousand miles has had no ill affects). I would prefer to fit something more substantial on the K3 if it exists.

 Re: K3 Wheels & Tyres
John,
I don't know if you sorted your wheels, but I recently had a pair of 13" minilites made by Compomotive in Wolverhampton to an offset I specified. Took one week and reasonably priced too. May be worth looking on their website and giving them a ring.

 Re: K3 Wheels & Tyres
Whilst messing around with the front end today I realised that one of the lower front wishbones had rotted on the top and so I thought I would look on evilbay for new ones (******hell they are a bit expensive) anyway I located a pair for reasonable money BUT the company selling them actually states that they are not to be fitted to a metro if you are using wider than 155 tyres as it alters the front end somewhat, they say to use the MGF ones instead, this gives a bit more negative camber by all accounts. As I have a pair I have decided to go with them I haven't taken the metro ones off just yet but will let you know if there is any visible differences.

 Re: K3 Wheels & Tyres
Could it be that the differences on the front end geometry are due to the engine? It may be a problem with the metro rather than it's subframe. By the way, I've got a spare mgf gearstick and cables if you are looking to upgrade.

The thing I would say is that the company wasn't trying to get more money out of me as the difference in price was minimal. I have just broken up a complete MGF and have kept all the parts including the gearstick, cables etc. but thanks for the thought. Quote: I've heard of people being 'underwhelmed' by this mod - sugesting elise instead or maybe
I would suggest that the cable system from the MGF would be an improvement on most K3 Rossa's from what I have heard, having said that my one prior to the accident had a very positive feel to the gearchange (the clutch pedal is a different matter altogether) no slop or stirring porridge, alot of which is due to the guide plate on the rear bulkhead moving about, stabilise that and it transforms the feel. The thing about changing to cable gearchange is that the metro box is slightly different to the MGF one, so I will leave it alone for now and will only alter it to a cable system if and when I put the whole of the MGF rear subframe, engine, box and brakes in place. (I was about to modify the existing rear brakes now but have decided to leave well alone and get the car back on the road as is before starting to change things, it's been off the road for too long and my lad will need a car soon when he passes his driving test. His sisters drive different kit cars so he wants one as well). Mike Satur is good with MG's and an Elise maybe very good but I would have thought that both were a little pricey, especially given I already have the means to convert and the wifes MGF gearchange is very smooth so I can't see any issues for the Rossa at a later date.

The Elise Gearchange is far far better!

 Re: K3 Wheels & Tyres
Well a quick update, there is a difference between the MGF and metro front wishbones. The main steelwork looks identical but the MGF bottom ball joint is at a different angle to the metro one in that it projects slightly further forwards than the metro one, this however would not be altering the camber but more likely the castor angle. They are both identical in terms of length from centre line of the two mounting bushes to the centre of the ball joint. This should help with steering self centering at least and possibly greater stability in a straight line. I doubt it will stop the tyres from rubbing the inner wheel arch on full lock, especially as I'm fitting the 15" rims if possible.
