Drat I went home Sunday, wish I'd stayed now, I tried to get into Peeps's car & don't fit, it would have been good to try fitting into another one :(

New wiring loom, ecu and engine loom. took about a week, bought a metro loom, new ECU and MG ZR 160 wiring loom to base it off of, but needed a lot of changing/chopping/extending as I've got an Elise engine and mgf dash

I no what you whet through had to do a similar thing when I did my engine swap I Had to fit a mgf mems3 loom to my cars metro one.

I was hoping to see your car at Stoneleigh but my car got sick (it got a bit hot ) so I couldn't go
i was looking at doing my own headlight covers using clay and using that for the shape as i had them but i put a crack in one
but i did not get all that far.
how did you get the shape using an aluminium.

Where are you based? I'm in loughborough and you're welcome to come and have a sit in/look around if you want? My car isn't quite as tidy as Peep's but it's done 4k miles in the last 11 months! I have thin Elise seats so better chance of fitting. I'm nearly 6ft and have my seat one click forward than the maximum back postion.

I put my yr9 D&T metalwork skills to good use, I hammered it to the rough curvature that I wanted using a rounded hammer and a bag of builders sand underneath. I first rough formed the acrylic to shape on the over over the former, then I cut it about 5mm too big to get the rough shape, then I did a final form over the former to get it as good as possible. Next was a case of using a dremel to slowly shape to fit the holes in the car. I'm happy to let you use the former as don't have the time to make any covers at the moment as it's probably 2-3 hours per cover to get them right. I tried rushing the first one with a grinding wheel and it shattered into many pieces. :?

I hope nothing too serious, I was autosoloing mine at Donington on saturday and managed to overheat as the fan sensor in the radiator has failed! :( I'm crossing my fingers it hasn't done any damage as really don't want to be doing the head gasket at the moment!

So while i love being able to take the roof off the car, only having a hard top has been a bit limiting on having to commit to not having a roof for a full day, which is rather optimistic with british weather!

I decided to give making a soft top a go! Results can be seen below, rough method was to laminate a front section to match the curve of the window frame and make an ally frame for the hoop and rear, then stretch fabric over it. Took about 3 days for ~4 hours a day but quite happy with it! It's not perfect but never really done any sewing before so rather pleased with myself and will give it a propper test drive tomorrow! It all is good I'll be using it on my trip to le mans this year :D

If people are interested I can do a more detailed build log but don't have a huge amount of build photos but can do sketches/diagrams if people want them!

What a stunner!!

Do you have any photos of the rear, showing how the exhaust exits from the rear clam?

Thanks

John.

Wow, can't believe it's nearly two years since I posted about my car! So much has happened and so many miles! Nearly at 15000 miles under my ownership and have had a few little niggles in that time but nothing major, blew a spark plug June 2017, nearly lost a wheel early 2018 (never got to the bottom but looks like wasn't tight enough and heat cycling/high loads from autosolos didn't help), and had a few minor electrical issues but most were caused by old components.

One area I've always struggled with is headlights, the original 7inch cibies were tolerable at best but compared to modern cars were useless. So I decided to fit some HID projectors, I 3d printed a housing and heat moulded some perspex for the lenses. Once fitted and adjusted properly (although airing on the low side to avoid blinding at the moment) they are easily the best headlights I've ever used and have less glare above the cutoff than the halogen headlights they replaced.

4 More years on and I finally got around to painting it! It's needed paint since I got it but finally found a few free weekends to get on it!

Went with MG FAR trophy yellow which is properly bright, but if you've got a yellow kit car it might as well be properly yellow!

Also re-engineered the headlights (dual projector now), blanked off the second fuel filler and widened the rear arches so I don't need the addons - front's are still a bit marginal but going to leave without the rubber strips for the moment as might put some narrower tyres on the front and they're cheeky but not taking the piss https://badobsessionmotorsport.co.uk/official-bom-tyre-stick-out-gauge/!
