That's a corking pic Steve! I'm in two minds now whether to leave it on the13" wheels. It does look right doesn't it :) I see so many cars today on big wheels with low profile tyres and they look bloody ridiculous. I also prefer a bit of sidewall on my tires too.

I have another pic here from the archives. I've no idea when it was taken or who is driving.

Hi Si,
That's me with my lovely missus at Stoneleigh in 2008. At one time if you Googled 'GTM K3' that was about the third image to come up. At the time of sale I put a load of photos up on the cloud - will work out where they are and send you the link. In the meantime a not so happy tail up nose down Purple Peril after a pumpup and before the magic nut/spacer - not looking as Mr Oakes intended!
Cheers,
Steve

Thanks for that Steve. All part of the car’s history and good to have.

Back brakes are more or less finished. Just need bleeding.

The MGF handbrake cables have been routed under the subframe and into the tub with the gearbox cables. I've sent the right hand cable through a hole on the subframe to keep it off the exhaust. I'll make some brackets or a heat shield maybe to go underneath and keep the cables in place.

Passing that cable through the subframe just doesn't look right in my opinion, think I'd be tempted to pass it underneath & make a bracket to keep it away from the exhaust. Is that the anti-roll bar that can seen in the image, are you leaving it on? No experience of a K3 but I removed it from the buggy as I felt it wasn't needed.

Phaeton, I've put another hole in the rear subframe in line with the one in the pic but a few inches to the left to take the other cable. I've moved the rubber sleeves further up the cables to they are now half in and half out of the holes and the cables now take a smooth and easy route into the tub. Running them outside and under the subframe takes up too much cable length. I do have some more pics but I don't want to put them on just yet. There's no anti roll bar fitted.

Back end is more or less done so I've started on the front end. Calipers off for cleaning and painting and I've skimmed the discs.

I've also removed all the old hydragas system and fitted the coilover brackets to the front.

A couple of pics showing the handbrake cables running through the subframe clear of the exhaust. I've made a bracket which bolts to the clutch housing and keeps the cables away from the downpipe.

I also realised whilst I was messing around at the back of the car today that whilst it has an R65 gearbox fitted it has been modified to take a cable change. I have no idea when this was done or even if it's actually quite recent as the gear change mechanism still has the pendulum weight hanging off it. It came in a box with a load of other stuff so it's never been fitted. That makes me think it was in the process of being modified but not completed but the welding of the brackets to the subframe doesn't look recent. It looks bloody rough too so it will need redoing when the subframe comes out next year. I would have thought the car had a rod change when it was first built. I may fit an MGF subframe and PG1 gearbox when I get round to it.

I built a towbar for the buggy, I used the track control arm bolts to attach to, it can be unbolted but leaving those bolts untouched. Not sure how you would stop yours dropping down.

Image

Just be aware of a couple of things, all towbars after 2001 (I think) have to be tested, unless your vehicle was SVA/IVA'd with towing weights you can't tow & it may/will invalidate you insurance
