hi did you use the mgf engine mounts when i did my engine change to the 1.8 i could not use the mgf one without modifying it to follow the metro one so it would miss the bulkhead
the red one was cut to follow the shape of the mero one

Image

my mgf handbrake cabals i think are fixed to the sub fram using p clips

Paul

I used the standard F gearbox mount and I have about 1mm clearance at the near side bulkhead.

Thanks for the tip on the handbrake cables, as I was trying to replicate the MG route, which is over the top of the gearbox and then p-clip to the GTM rear clam frame.

As I don’t want to cut into the body tub, I am searching to see what slave cylinder brackets are fitted to othe k-series models and hope to find a quick solution,

Well, I had a little play last night and have hit a problem with the rear clam frame fouling on the MGF rear anti roll bar - I originally took the ARB off to allow me space to fit the coil over set up and when I offered it back up last night, it fouls on the rear clam frame; therefore, has anyone managed to fit the ARB without serious butchery of the rear metalwork?

Hi Jaybee,
Where did you get your nice shiny manifold and is there any difference to 1.6 & 1.8?

It was thrown in as part of the deal for me to buy the full MGF rear end and as far as I am aware, it does all K-Series engines.

I was looking at this one and they have dropped the price as tad

It’s been too hot to do much in the last week or so, but managed a few hours last night and fitted the coil over brackets, GAZ dampers and Faulkner springs to then rear of the car after much jittery pokery - what should have taken an hour too 3 times that but I got there in the end.

Ready to go on, but I ran out of time due to the fact that I need to disconnect all engine and gearbox mounts to tilt the rear set up enough to squeeze in...........

Hopefully I can make this fit too!

This is how it looked with the cat installed. It pushed the box out too far and would have needed surgery to the rear clam so I made my own.

File comment: I tried the MGF box but it required too much surgery to the rear clam. Ended up making my own noisy jobby.

Peter.

Many thanks for that, it’ll save me a lot of hassle.

Did you manage to get the rear clam frame to fit properly with the rear anti roll bar in place?

Hi J,
No, I did away with the original box section horror, fastened the arb to the mount brackets as shown and made my own adjustable clam pivot plates that bolted directly to the subframe.

Do you have any photos of the clam mounts?

Hi J,
The triangular piece that takes the pivots originally was hanging off so I removed it, bonded in a couple of stiffeners and then bonded in a couple of stainless brackets which then lined up with the subframe brackets. These gave me 30mm adjustment up and down and in and out. I will see if I can find the original drawings for the subframe mounts, I had these laser cut (surprise!) and welded one into an 'L' shape for the other to bolt to.

Thanks for the photos Peter :D

I managed to find an hour today and fitted the Faulkner 7" 275lbs springs to the standard TF front dampers and the look is much better now.
