Help.

In readiness for changing over my rusty front subframe with a new one last night, I spent over an hour faffing about trying to figure out how to remove the fibreglass clam from the fron subframe extension piece to no avail.

I’ve consulted the build manual, which was no help whatsoever; therefore, can anyone advise how to remove, as the only way I can figure it our is to undo the who extension frame that the clam is fixed to and th radiator is mounted to by welded brackets, but I really don’t want to remove the radiator, given the reported hassle of filling and venting?

There are two ‘studs’ at the lower pivot points but I just cannot figure out their removal.

If any one has the answer I’ll be greatly appreciative and photos would obviously help the removal

Thanks in advance

Hi J

My K3 (donkeys years back) had the 2 pivot pins you are looking at thru a tube and held in place with an R clip. I'm guessing the tube was part of the factory assembled front clam mount, but from there on it could have been 'fine tuned' by whoever built the car.

I will say first time I removed mine they were real bu##ers to shift as they were rusted in.

Cheers, Malcolm.

Malcolm.

Many thanks - I now can see the remnants of corroded R-clips; therefore, I think plenty of WD40 and a lot of faffing to remove them will be in order

hi
The first time i had to remove the front of my k3 it took me ages to realise you had to pull the r cilp out and then pull the bolt out too.
my one looks like a cap head bolt with no threads in it

I got one R clip out and after an hour faffing about with the other, I admitted defeat and went and done something else like try to fir my Rober GTi seats.

The pivots are seized solid and will have to take the whole lot, with brace bar included, then see if I can remove them without damaging the clam before getting the brace bar shotblasted and galvanised.

Oh the joys of taking on a car that’s sat for 4years............
