Post Libra 1.8 vvc for sale
Well, this is quite hard but I’m gonna put my Libra up for sale. I had hoped that this car was a keeper, but sometimes things change & life throws up unexpected events!
I’ve owned it for 7 years & had virtually no problems with it in that time - a testament to its original build quality. Until a month ago when the clutch failed. So it does need a new clutch fitting - not really a big job, but not one that i have time to do at the moment. Other than that its a fully sorted & reliable car, with most of the bits everyone’s looking for.
If you search on Facebook for ‘GTM Libra Build’ you will find the full story of its build by Dave Boud.
& I’ll also post a link to the previous advert from when i bought the car, which has all the details about it - don’t have time to write them all out again! Only significant changes from then are, it now has new Protech shocks all round & its got a personalised GTM number plate.
Contact me for more details & I’m looking for offers around £5500.

Post Re: Libra 1.8 vvc for sale
I couldn’t find the link to the original advert from when i bought it so have cut & pasted it from a saved version i had.

Engine
1.8 K series from a MG ZR 160. I personally rebuilt this engine and can verify it is definitely the preferred 160 unit (stronger pistons, larger throttle body and improved cylinder head) and not the lesser VVC units. The head was skimmed, valve guides checked, valve stem seals replaced and DVA style quick and dirty porting job performed by myself. This was re assembled with a MLS head gasket, new water pump, timing belt and tensioner. The exhaust manifold is the 4 branch from the VHPD with no Cat (not required for MOT) the adaption was made by Exhausts by design and features an extra box to connect to the GTM original. A carbon CDA air filter is fitted and it is all run by a VVC enabled Emerald ECU. It is currently running a download map from emerald for this engine and goes very well with a smooth idle and good torque across the rev range. With a good rolling road set up I am sure 180hp is there.

Cooling
Achilles heel of the K series so a lot of attention has been payed. Radiator is uprated high capacity item from Loughborough Radiators, made for the Libra. LR Freelander “Grey bodied” PRT bypassing thermostat fitted together with Laminova oil cooler. Double fan set up fitted to rad with thermostatic control coming from Emerald ECU, an over ride switch is also on the center console.

Gearbox
Close ratio unit from the same MG ZR as the engine. An MGF Mike Satur gear change set up is fitted that gives a very precise short shift. Light weight fly wheel from the VHPD was retained as was the clutch as it was near new. Gearbox oil was replaced with the correct type when the gearbox was fitted.

Suspension and Steering
Ride height and bump adjustable AVO shocks with 450lb rear and 215lb front springs. Front and rear anti roll bars fitted with up rated aluminum drop links and high quality rose joints. I have set the damping to try to give a good road set up with some compliance for the bumps
I have replaced the original steering rack with a quicker version which has greatly improved the response and feel of the car. Quite a big job but well worth it.

Brakes
The front has larger discs with Hi spec 4 pot calipers and Mintex 1144 pads fitted. The rears are MGF discs and Rover 200 calipers. The brake servo has just been replaced and some attention to the vacuum plumping combined with the above has now given a really impressively powerful brake set up

Body
Composite Monocoque just like an F1 car! Stiffer than an Elise. Red (the best colour) the original Gel coat has not been painted and being garaged all its life not faded. Has a few chips but nothing serious. Additional rear spoiler and front splitter. I have reinforced the splitter with ply so speed bump scuffing is not a problem. All exterior vents fitted with black mesh to prevent ingress of leaves etc and enhance appearance

Interior
All relevant items on the interior are trimmed in carbon fiber (real) including the instrument back panel, centre console heater outlet and controls. The centre console is bespoke and includes additional gauges (clock and oil temp). It also covers the gearshift modifications and runs all the way back from the dash to the handbrake cover. Main switches are replaced with aluminum versions (lights hazards etc). It also includes oil pressure warning light, wiper intermittent speed dial, alarm indicator light, stereo and starter switch and button. Hand brake and gear stick gators are red leather. There is a shift light fitted on top of the steering column. Main instruments are the GTM branded items and the gauges in the center console are from the same manufacturer.
The stereo is an Alpine Head unit with CD player and 6 Sony speakers with an amplifier.
Indicator and wiper stalks have been replaced with Elise aluminum versions.
All interior panels are trimmed in grey and black Alcantara by a professional company (the one GTM used to use) this includes the fuel pipe cover and inside of the roof panel.

Wheels and Tyres
Original 16 “ wheels replaced with 17” Compomotives including the spare (never used). Tyres are Good year eagle F1 with loads of life remaining.

All in all its a quick, well mannered, nicely finished car and I believe one of the best Libras out there. It was originally built to a very high standard and at great expense and I hope I have improved it further. It comes with a folder full of build history and bills

Nice car. Wasn't it on throttle bodies when Dave had it?

Hmmmm, interesting.....

Where are you based Sven? [edit to say your profile says Norwich...]
Does it drive with the clutch problems or need trailering away?
