Post subject:  GTM's 50th Birthday Themed Event

A couple of us on here are regular attendees of the,

MK1 performance mini action day.

To celebrate the GTM Marques 50th Birthday we (the GTM Owners) have been invited by the organisers of this event to, provide a display of ALL, the GTM Models through the years [1967-2017].

REPEAT ALL ARE INVITED

GTM LIBRA
GTM SPYDER
GTM K3
GTM ROSSA 2
GTM ROSSA 1
GTM COUPE
HEEREY GTM
COX GTM

Before they go ahead and advertise the fact that this event will be GTM themed, We need a show of hands to feed back the numbers who are interested.

If you are Interested, please leave a note on this thread only, with what car you will be bringing (that's in any condition).
This event is going to be covered by Mini Magazine.

WHEN IS IT :?:
Provisional date : The first May bank holiday 2017 on Sunday. So yes this does clash with one day of Stoneleigh Kit car show, why not do both events? We will be.

WHERE IS IT :?:
Blyton park circuit Lincolnshire.

WHAT TYPE OF EVENT IS IT :?:
Well this event is into its 4th year. It started as a track day but more and more people attended over the years. It is still a small event which gives it a great atmosphere. There is track action, where, if you wish you can buy a trackday pass (£135-ish from memory) and go around as much as you like.

ENTRY TO THE EVENT
The event normally helps out a charity, so the entrance cost is a donation to the chosen charity for that year.
The organisers last year politely suggested £10 would be very much appreciated.
(which is down to your discretion)

Trackday Tuition is available for those who wish for an extra £20. In advance.
Extra drivers if you can convince a GTM owner your trustworthy enough to drive their car it will cost £20. On the day.
Or be a
Passenger for £5. On the day.
Or just take the camera and watch others tear around from the spectator banking.

There will also be the opportunity of a Parade lap at a more sedate pace for those not keen on the full trackday experience.

There is also a Mini derivatives display area. Every year Jeroen Booij of Maximum Mini usually organises some great and unusual Mini derived cars to attend, some of which just come for the static show. This is where we have been based/parked/involved for the last 3 years.

The paddock area is open to the public and you can have a nose around the cars when they are not on track. There is more than enough to see everyone is friendly and happy to chat about there cars, and you'd be surprised to see how much the hardlined Mini crowd love the GTM's.

Lots of REAL Minis turn up and are usually parked up on the side in their own area.

There is also a small auto jumble aimed at the Mini market, I know a few of you have Minis as well.

Facilities
There is a real restaurant/cafe there so a chance to sit and enjoy a nice cuppa and food is available providing a good place to shelter, if it gets a bit wet.

Camping
Camping has been available for all 3 previous years so see no reason why not this time. The cost previously has been £10.

It would be really good to get as many GTMs across all the models and years there to show them how the Mini helped start a great marque and how it developed over the years.

There is more to be announced about this event, but as this is VERY early in the organising/planning stage we are after numbers.

Thank you, more to follow.

below is a link to an advertisement for the last event, and a link for Blyton Park.

Stuart,

Brilliant idea -- well done that man!
Provisional place please for a coupe -- Primo, white car or Heerey -- just be aware that none of these actually work right now!

As an aside the true anniversary ie the Racing Car Show probably coincides with the Autosport show at the NEC but I suppose it would be too expensive to hire a stand.

Yes Steve,
your on the list 8)

It doesn't matter if you drag it there, over the last few years we have see all types.
Dragged out of a barn/garage whatever. It really is about doing something showcasing the GTM Marque, with other enthusiasts. People just want to see the cars and I'm not just talking GTM's either.
There had been some real oddball mini specials too, in all manner of states of repair.

The other year there was a mini on display that was well known to the connoisseur's of such things,
a ex works mini rally car that looked as tho it had been end over the end.

I'm speaking with some other non Gtmoc members too who are intending coming along too.

Stuart,

If its possible it might be an idea to link to the Mk1 forum page for the 2016 event -- just to whet people's appetite there's photos of a GTM, Nimbus, Midas, Ogle, Mini Jem and Marcos, plus the ex-works Unipower -- Oh and some Minis. There's even a Quantum with Ford power so perhaps we should be encouraging Derek H to take along his newly developed Coupe.

I won't derail the thread with the section on ADO16 and my latest project -- as if I needed another one!

Sounds like it will be a good event but I think Lincolnshire is a bit far for me. I'll give it a bit more thought though...

I am under the same opinion as sanzomat, does sound like a great venue but is a little far for me from South Wales.

I don't know. I'm sure we can twist his arm though. It isn't that far for him.

If I'm back on the road (I hope to be) I'll come along.

It's a days drive each way for me, so it will be this or Stoneleigh, not both.

Stuart,

You sure? -- 8 Months is a very short time in the lifespan of many GTM projectshttp://www.gtmdrivers.com/forum ... e8f9cf078#
