 Smiths water temp gauge
Am I right in thinking that Smiths water temp gauges all use a common sender? Mine is a half scale 30-110 degree gauge which only just comes off the mark (30 degrees) when the engine is hot yet a thermometer placed on the thermostat housing reads 85/90 degrees. I have used a new 10 volt voltage stabiliser which supplies the water temp and fuel gauges and that seems ok because the fuel gauge is fine. The needle flies round to max if I put the sender wire directly to earth and the sender is a new one. I'm presuming it's a faulty sender but I'd be interested in what others think before I invest in another one.

Sounds like a sender issue from what you discribe. Do not know if there is a resistance chart for them anywhere online, then you could test it in a saucepan and see if it reads correctly with a multimeter

Cheers. For what they cost I'll just get a new one. Unfortunately the original had the spade broken off so I can't try it either.

 Re: Smiths water temp gauge
I forgot to mention earlier, I do not know if there are different senders, I know a honda one is simular in operation to a mini one as I found out which saved me a bit of time. All the a series ones I have come across so far have been the same
