Re: how can you tell vvc i MEMS 2 from a VVC MEMS 3
hi all can any one help i have just got a 1.8 vvc 143 bhp engine its not the 160bhp and i found this on the net The Third evolution of engines (known as EU3) are found in post 1999 cars in 1.1 16v, 1.4 16v (103bhp), 1.6 16v (110bhp), 1.8 16v (118bhp), 1.8 16v (135bhp, 1.8 VVC (143bhp), and 1.8 VVC (156bhp, known as the 160 engine). These are identifiable by a lack of distributor and a larger plastic spark plug cover (hiding a pair of coilpacks). The 1.8 16v 135bhp engine is basically a 118bhp engine with some sportier cams, a vvc inlet manifold (with the lettering removed) and a larger throttle body, the 143bhp VVC engine is essentially the same as the 156bhp engine but with smaller throttle body, the standard 16v exhaust manifold and different ecu map. These engines all run Mems3 MPi injection (wedge shaped ECU).they all run mems3. so can i get any mems3 to run the engine or do i need one that is for a 143bhp engine if i do need it to be for a 143 how can i tell its for my engine and not the 160 thanks

i have been looking on the net and my engine has these plugs on it so i got this from the net thinking it would be right MGF mk2 FULL CAR WIRING LOOM - Inc fusebox & relays. the problem i s the loom has these plugs on it can any one help has any one put a mems3 ecu in there car and can point me in the right direction i have found out that there should be 2 ecu plus i think one should be on the main loom and one on the engine loom (i could be wrong) but i cant find any wiring looms with the right plug for mems3 i think i will have to find the right loom or change the engine loom for a mems 2 ecu which has 2 pugs on the engine loom and a relay box if i do this are all the engine sensors the same or would i have to change any of them

That loom you have is for a mems2 the mems 3 does have some different sensors and ecu and main loom plugs best bet is to get the right loom for your engine converting may be possible but probably not worth bothering. I have fitted a 1.8vvc on mems2 into a Libra with a 1.4mpi but at the moment not worked on a mems3 although this will be changing. That engine in your photo looks like a mems2 143bhp engine due to the inlet manifold and mems3 has coil n plugs. Regards Matty
