Post Fuel filler cap
Hi

Does anyone have any information on the Spyder fuel cap.

Mine never had a key and the inevitable has happened and I

now need to buy a new one.

Yes , I must have left it behind when I last filled up.

There are so many types about so any info would be great.

Thanks

Pete

Try this from Car Builder Solutions. Not double checked the sizes, but from looking at mine it seems it should fit

Post Re: Fuel filler cap
Hi
Sorry for the late reply

I have found a lot which are the same size as mine but would
like to get the same type as originally fitted so that I could just
fit the new filler cap without replacing the connection to the fuel plpe.
Regards

Pete

The one on my Libra came from Newton Equipment.
See here:

But i guess it just depends what the person who built it fitted.
When i got my Libra it only had 1 set of keys. I got all the others cut at the usual key cutting places, but nobody could cut the fuel cap key. I ended up paying £23 for a key from Newton equipment !!!!!!

It's a Newton Aero 400 on my Libra. I forgot my cap one time, left it on the little shelf of the side intake and drove away. Realised once i got home (bout 5mins from the PS) and went back to find the cap in the road, plastic broken and ally bashed - was gutted. Found a complete unit 2nd hand on Ebay fortunately.

Hi
Thanks for the replies
Merlin Motorsport sell the fuel cap on its own so can
save £25 on not buying the housing.

Post Re: Fuel filler cap
I seem to have lost my filler cap  I filled up on Friday and just noticed today it wasn't there so I must have driven off without it as the car has been tucked up in a locked garage since. I went back to the filling station but nothing had been handed in and nothing visible on the roads nearby. Thanks for the info re it being the Newton one. Looking them up it was good job I was sitting down when I saw the price!!

Useful info re Merlin selling just the inners which they still do and Merlin are pretty local to me so I could pop over to Castle Combe and pick one up but still £75 for just the inner.

I noticed that Car Builder Solutions sell the Newton ones (whole thing only) and they also have an unbranded one that is much cheaper. Looking at the pictures although the flange is much bigger (150 instead of 120) the inner part looks very similar. I rang them and cheekily asked if they could try the inner form the 150mm version in the 120mm Newton outer and with a slight loosening of the back nut apparently it fitted so I've ordered one of those. £39 delivered is a bit easier to swallow but still smarting from being daft enough to forget it. I'll confirm when it arrives but might be useful to anyone else who might lose one. I think a tether might be a good idea!!!

The filler cap came today from CBS. Full marks for quick delivery. It fits fine and look good. The operation is better than the old one. I now have a spare 150 dia flange, cork gasket and a bag of M6 nuts and bolts too.

And now tethered so I won't be losing this one! The new cap had a small hole in the plastic part just right for a cable tie, but too small for the buckle part of the tie so I passed a tie through the hole in the cap. I bent a hook into the leading edge of the tie and passed that through one of the holes in the filler neck restrictor, using the bent end I could fish the leading edge back out of the main hole and then slide the buckle end of another cable tie onto it. Trimming both so I effectively had a single tie with two buckled ends I've now got a nice neat tether.

Nice idea Sanz. Wonder how long the tie wrap will last in the fuel vapour?

Interesting you have that restrictor disc thing, mine doesn't have anything like that.

Got me worried so I looked it up. Tie wraps are made from Nylon6-6. Nylon 6-6 is resistant to petrol so happy days:
