Post subject: | Limited Slip Diff? |
Hi all, not sure how prevalent LSD's are in these cars. Have started leaning on mine a little & it's not difficult to get mucho wheelspin on hard accel.....I'm guessing that I don't have a slipper at the mo as the box is ZS from what I understand which never had a limited slip diff. There was a factory option for an LSD on the PG1 fitted to certain T series Turbo engined cars & a few VVC ones too. These are the Torsen type so not technically the best for a RWD application but better than an open diff & a lot cheaper than the aftermarket options (Quaife ATB, plated etc). Was thinking of getting a spare ZS box to build with a Torsen that I can swap over. Does anybody have one in their car? Thoughts / comments?? Guess some of the Lotus sourced gearboxes may have come with LSD's from the factory? |

Mine has a limited slip diff, but as I've never driven one without I can't really help. In the same way that mine has always had anti roll bars, so couldn't say how they help either. I'l have a look when I get time to see which one it is I have fitted. |

Ok thanks. Did a bit of reading around & they are apparently quite few & far between on elises, more prevalent on exige due to higher power/torque outputs. I'll see if I can source one in anycase as I plan to get a ZS box to keep as a spare. |

Does an LSD make the breakaway more sudden? |

Thanks Ray - I'll weigh up the options & see where to go next! Pete - think you're right in the fact that you'll get better straightline traction & general traction until the point of spin/slip at which point it's game over! We know all about that from our previous antics don't we |

Finally had time to check which mine is . Apparently it is a torsen lsd fitted to a rover 25 brm special edition gearbox. It is bolted to a 160bhp vvc. |

Yep - that's the 'drop in swap' for the K, would have to bud the diff into a V6 casing for mine - no big deal. |
