Does the exhaust heat shield actually protect anything on the libra? Mine constantly rattles so ideally want to remove completely or if it does protect something I will make a better one

It depends how warm you want the contents of the boot

I used some hard rubber strip between the shield and the mounting frame that stopped the rattle.

Later I ran without. Heat reflecting material on the boot would probably be at least as good.

I have never known one to set on fire without one

Sure it's not the boot lid?

I put exhaust wrap between the mounting flanges and the shield and also trimmed the corners as they are unsupported and can tend to cause the rattle at certain rev ranges. I have also applied heat reflective mat on the whole under side of the clam shell bar the wheel arches, so I don't really need the shield but I have fitted it because we all like shiny things

Thank you for the replies. Will order some heat reflective tape and ditch the heat shield. If it's not needed, i don't want the weight either!

I didn't even get the heat shield with my kit (2006) I asked about it but they said it was no longer supplied as it wasn't required....

Mine rattled from day one so I took it off many years ago without any ill effects. If you got the car really hot
like on a Track Day that may be different.
