Does anybody know where you can get front clam hinges from as well? Tin worm eating mine!

I think it would be possible to get them machined but the more at one time would lower the cost.
If they can be found should be less than £1 each but a lot more from a machine shop.
I will wait until the weekend rush of GTM gurus before making a decision.

BTW - how daft to have a stainless pin in a mild steel housing!!!

What size are the bushes? Put 'nylon bushes' in ebay search and came up with plenty hits.

The hinge is just a flat triangular plate with a tube stem welded to it for the pin?

Pete - at least the pin won't rust!

Last time I made some bushes to replace my worn original GTM supplied ones (for the rod gear linkages) I made them from Oilon rod.

If you're not in a massive rush Pete I'll turn you a pair up. If you post the dims I can get some material sorted.

Cheers.

Just wrote a reply and couldn't post it that was a test.

Anyway if it's a help I used 'olite' brass bushes on the clams and the doors for that matter, sidewinders correct all the hinge is a triangle plate with a piece of tube tacked on and 6mm fasteners machined down and tacked from the back, I sure these could be replaced with pan head 6mm fasteners as I don't think there is that much of a clearance issue.
I'm sure there is a Fab shop near you that could make them from a fag packet drawing even in stainless, make them yourself if you access to a welding set I always get a buzz from making stuff like this myself exactly how you want it

Oilite bushes, good idea. I used one of those for the front swivel point of my rod gear change.

I think the bolts are prob welded in place cos it's hard to access them to stop turning as you tighten the nuts.

Do oilite bushes rattle?

I have found them available here

Not if they are a tight tolerance fit to whatever you run in them.

I just removed my bonnet hinges entirely. Oh dear. The studs on the driver's side retaining plate must have sheared off long ago with part of the plate rusted to almost nothing. One of the R clips broke in the hole, one nylon bush has broken at the flange and both pins had to be hammered out of the tubes.

Time to redo all the parts in stainless I think (except the pins which are fine). I think the tubes are too long at 25mm as there's not much pin left to go into the nylon bush. Or the pins ought to be longer.

Looking at Oilite; OBF101316 would be the right one (10mm ID, 13mm OD, 16mm long, 2.5mm thick flange) only difference is flange thickness, 2.5mm instead of nylon's 3.0mm.
Found some reasonably priced 316SS 10mm rod to make longer pins and SS spacer/sleeves in 10mm ID/16mm OD/20mm long to make the stems.

I know a couple places that will do laser cutting for the plates and have a local welder for joining stems & studs to plates.

Fabbed the hinge/clamp plates all in stainless, temporarily bolted them together - ready for welding. I ended up cutting the plates out by hand.

Need to make longer pins, originals really are too short.
