Has anybody modified the front suspension to make the camber easily adjustable
The shims as standard are a nightmare to alter.
Mine has .5 neg one side and .5 positive the other
I was thinking of a rose joint on the top link ????

All ideas mad or sensible warmly wanted
The idea will be left field

I thought about it a lot!

I concluded that the top ball joint would need to be changed to a threaded plug then you could make new top wishbones to take a rose joint.

I didn't draw it up but as the wishbones are pretty short and narrow I suspect it would be difficult to do, especially with the shock in there. Maybe you could bend the tube through 90 degrees rather than bring them to a point. A bit like the MK top wishbones.

Yes that would work and a good photo of how.

Thought tonight after posting is to insert threaded bar into the two wishbone tubes and have a nut and locknut - I will do a sketch
Technically the angle will change as you wind in and out but so small can be disregarded?

A two-piece shim with 2 slots (to clear the mounting bolts) in each shim would save a lot of time.

It might be easier to do it form the other end and fit rose joints where the wishbone attaches to the body. You could also adjust caster at the same time. Admittedly it would make adjustment a little more difficult.

Issues with shims on mine are that the bolts are not captive so access needed from both sides - pretending to be a worm.
Also what thickness shim alters the camber by xxx degrees.

Two nuts welded to the wishbone tube
Bottlescrew - i.e. LH and RH threads
Turning will lengthen / shorten the tube
Lock into place with locknuts
This will change the angle technically but will be so slight as to be immaterial

You would have to do the same to the other arm or the geometry would mess up far worse than cambers because the lengths are not equal. I think Roger is onto something but the shim method seems to be the only way at present it looks.

I am interested in any ideas because I have the same issue on mine.

If the adjustment is only carried out to one of the arms then it would only slightly change the castor
If the top balljoint is moved forward then the castor would be decreased and opposite for back
Castor is self centering of the steering only if the rest of the geometry is ok

TVR use an insert that threads into the wishbone at the mounting to the chassis then the bush is threaded into this as they are LH/RH thread they can be adjusted then locked off without having to remove from mounting they only use one for toe in but with a pair could do camber/castor

Has anyone got a GTM libra/spyder in zcars for works at the moment?
They could see if they could make up a pair of adjustable replacement top mounts for mass production for the forum to buy?

Just decided to contact laurenence of zcars and sent some photo's of the upper arms to see if this is possible with there involvement to build a pair of adjustable top mounts for camber/castor applications.
I have said i can post them my upper arms as a test models to get the ball rolling but would also appreciate an indication of costs at this point to build a pair.

Either way i think its going to be hundreds in costs to build etc but is definitely worth a go.

My car should be (finally) going to z cars for the rear suspension fitting shortly so I was going to get their opinion on this very subject whilst its there :wink:

I'll let you know what they have to say.

I'm really interested in pushing the first set through (as long as it's not a far fetched stupid figure in costs) but I'm happy to pay the costs for designs and installation to fit yours as a test model as if it was my car in there workshop?

No problem if they need to use my car to mock up whilst its there :)

What type of arrangement were you thinking off? Building a pair of adjustable top wishbone mounting brackets or altering the top wishbones themselves to make the mounts adjustable?

If it could be done with the brackets, retro fit would be easy for us all. Not sure if a slotted bracket would be suitable in this circumstance but slotted mounts are used in the Z Cars rear suspension set up so maybe?

Rose joints to the top mountings (or the TVR method) would do it obviously but means the wishbone needs to be sent off for modification - a new mounting bracket would be the easier option and retain the poly bushes.
