Hi All,

Time to introduce myself, I'm Martin in Bristol and the very happy owner of the blue V6 Libra which I recently bought from Steve in Cheltenham.

Been watching GTMOC for years and have always wanted a Libra... the V6 is a bonus :D
I had a Midas Gold Convertible for many years but some young gentleman in a Transit wrote it off for me in February, being chased the wrong way down a one-way street by the police....prosecution in progress!
Sadly for some reason known only to the developers of the software, my dash-cam had ceased recording at midnight on 31/12/20, otherwise it would have been all over YouTube.

Anyway, the Libra is great and I've been getting stuck in sorting the issues you would expect on a car that's been in storage for a while.....rusty brackets, suspension, tubing, etc. Fixed a couple of water leaks, improved the gear change and gradually replacing all the corroded Torx head screws with stainless (I bought 200 thinking that would be more than enough and I am about to order some more, they are everywhere).

I've also had all the interior out to add some sound deadening, given all the trim a thorough clean and repositioned the seats to suit my diminutive stature - call me old-fashioned but I like to be able to see out of the windows.........

The one thing I have bottled-out of is changing the cam belts.......did a bit of Googling and it looks quite complex compared to the 4-cylinder K-series, so it's booked into my trusted local garage next week. Libra has under 10k miles on the clock and the donor was registered in the same year as the Libra was built (2006) so it can't have more than 20k on it but the belts should be replaced at 90k or 10 years - if it lets go its goodbye engine. So I'm having the lot done - belts, tensioner, pulley, water pump and I have a feeling the thermostat is leaking so I've told them to check that while they have it in bits. Then I can relax for 10 years.......

Part of the deal is that I bought the cam locking tools for the garage to use, so if anyone on here wants to borrow them you are welcome.

Still have an ever-growing list of jobs (it is a Kit Car after all) but the next thing I'm tackling is the nasty clam stops at each end. The rear hinge mounts already need repair to what is an inherently flimsy design and the front stops make me cringe every time its open - anyone had a go at this already?

Looking forward to meeting up when Boris lets us :)

Welcome Martin.
I think I might have seen the Midas form time to time - was it cream/off white?
I'm based in Yate so local to you - once we are let of the leash would be good to meet up. I've seen some pics of that Libra in previous posts and looks a nice one.

Mine was red, it had been modified to take K-series engine, so it looked a bit like a Frog-eye Sprite from the front.

Front clam stops need to be made bigger on the tub side. You could use 3mm aluminium with a rubber face pop riveted onto the existing stops. The problem is the hinge design which allows the clam to move sideways sometimes only just catching one of the stops.
