The speedo is failing on the Libra and my efforts to fix it have been unsuccessful, so I'm replacing it with a new rone from ETB . I have to set the new unit up for the appropriate speed sensor signal - does anyone know what signal the original Caerbont speedo uses? Choices are:- a) M8 NPN sensor b) 2-wire Magnetic Induction sensor c) 3-wire Hall-effect / OEM gearbox sensor My guess would be the Hall-effect OEM sensor - can anyone confirm that? Thanks. |

Not sure what gearbox the V6 uses. If its a PG1 it uses an electronic adaptor that takes the rotational drive and turns it into pulses. These came as standard on MGTF. Mine came originally with one of those adaptors on it feeding the wires to the GTM speedo - easy to spot on the top of the gearbox at the back, three wires. If you have one of those than OEM seems a good choice. |

https://www.the-t-bar.com/forum/9-mgf-tf-pitstop/96551-instruments-calibration-data This might be useful if you do have the MGTF speedo transducer. Apparently it gives 4000 pulses per mile. http://etbinstruments.com/ETB_Gauge_Wiring_PDF/ELEC%20SPEEDO%20CAL%20INSTRUCTIONS.pdf ETB ship them set at 41000 pulses per mile so more than 10x out! |

Crikey, somebody knows a lot about electronics!......very useful stuff....Thanks My V6 has a PG1 gearbox and I had a poke around earlier........this looks like the speed sensor, so OEM it is. Thanks again for your help.

Hi Why not just send it to Caerbont for repair? |

LCD display is OK but sometimes displays what I think must be a revs per mile number rather than the mileage reading. Speedo needle often fails to move, other times OK. Had it apart and resoldered a couple of dodgy looking joints but still unreliable/inconsistent. Fed up with taking it out, trying something else, reinstalling it, so I've stopped faffing around and bought the ETB equivalent which also has a few other functions as well as being cheaper. |
