Post subject:  Rossa exhaust

Hi
I have taken the rear moulding of the back of my red Rossa and have exposed a tiny exhaust.
Both my current Mk2 and old Mk1 had a stainless silencer and metro manifold, this seems to be an exhaust with an entry mid way under the silencer, the exit is still on the left but it's mild steel and very small bore.
Was this the budget option and did they work?

Thanks
Paul

My Mk1 is the same and it has caused some fitting problems. My engine is an MG Metro 1275 and it came with a single outlet 1275 non-MG exhaust manifold fitted, the outlet of which is too big for the down pipe of the exhaust. I have had to get a 998 manifold which fits but is awkward to join up with the down pipe because a 1275 engine is slightly taller than a 998 so the pipe is too short  The sealing problems that this caused have been overcome (for the moment) by using a sealant meant for stoves etc and which cost just over £20 for the tube  From all that, I presume that the little exhaust (which might originally come from a Hillman Imp) is meant for a 998 installation.

I recently bought the stainless version you mention on ebay so it's ready to fit if the other one blows again. I'm leaving the wee fella on meantime because I know that it's quiet so it's fine for IVA and I don't know how the loud the stainless one is but I hope it's a bit sportier!

Hi

The early Rossas had the mild steel Imp exhaust. I have one left in stock going very cheap.

I have in stock complete LCB stainless systems to fit the Rossa1 & 2 including the fitting kit and clamps.
They are not cheap but are easy to fit and should never need replacing.

Please contact me direct if you are interested.

What size of engine is it on? I think it would be very restrictive on anything above an 850!!

Hi Alan,

I know this is an old post, but do you still have any of the stainless exhausts and, if so, how much are they?

Regards,

Peter

Has anyone else had problems with the original Imp exhaust system cracking the manifold?

My Rossa II is nearly back on the road and had it's MOT on Friday. It failed because of a crack in the manifold. I had to replace a manifold a few years ago after it broke. This seems to be caused by a lack of flexibility in the down pipe.

Was going to change the whole exhaust system at some stage anyway, but was going to keep the original for the time being as there are other more pressing things need doing on the car. Looks like this has moved up the list of priorities!!
