Hi All,

I've recently been having issues with the the Rossa indicators, when I'm using the headlights the indicator flash slows down. . . to the point where it takes a long time for it to flash.

The MOT is coming up soon so I've been having a nose around the car to see what could be causing it but haven't found anything yet.

Does anyone have any ideas for what to look at?

It's got the metro dash it it helps.

Hi Ben,

Does this happen on both the right and left indicators?

It is often down to a slightly high resistance somewhere in the indicator wiring.

You could try replacing the flasher unit.

Could be a bad earth connection.

Earthing is often an issue on GRP cars.

Thanks for the replies.

It happends to both sides but also affects them by different amounts (the left side go slightly slower than the right).

I've tried another flasher unit and that flashes incredibly quickly, which they wont like either.

Do you know where the earth for the indicators should be going or where I can expect to find them? Someones done a number on the wiring on this car in the past so it's all over the place

All the earths will (or should) be black. They will (or should) go back to probably a couple of places on the car. The quick flashing sounds like there isn't enough load on the flasher unit (caused by duff lamp, or broken wire).

Check where all the black wires for the indicators go to. My money would be on one of them having broken off.

As it is linked with the headlights, I'd start at the front........

Try cleaning up all the connections in the indicator wiring, take bullet connectors apart, check the earths, check the bulb holder, try new bulbs.

You have a higher resistance somewhere in the left hand side (compared to the right) which is why they are going slower on that side.

The reason they go slow when the headlights are on.
For the indicators to work correctly they must draw a certain amount of current and your headlights when on, are dropping the amount of current the indicator bulbs can draw, to a point below their usable limit when combined with a higher than normal resistance somewhere in the indicator wiring.

Thanks for the tips, I'll be out looking tonight and tomorrow so should hopefully be able to find it. . . such a frustrating job!!

I suspected an earthing problem as it's affected by the other lights but I'm not great with electrics so it's taking a while to find it
